Re: Beetle Mania (Sand Scorcher/DT-02 and Blitzer Beetle)

Excellent work! Any updated pics for these two? Are they still that clean? Thanks! The short answer is no. Like most of the collection, they are covered with dust from setting on the shelf. The boxart body was moved to the Sand Scorcher to finish that build. The Blitzer Beetle has been conve...

Re: Tamiya Sand Scorcher - 2010 Reissue

I actually did my letter with a toothpick and tamiya paint. https://www.rc10talk.com/download/file.php?id=171967 Those tires came out great, nice work. I'll see how the paint pen does, and then try the tooth pick if I can't get the pen to work. Is there anything that easily cleans the paint off the...

Re: Tamiya Sand Scorcher - 2010 Reissue

That is so sweet! The right decals, a boxart front bumper, and love the wheels you went with too, they look like the old Centerline rims, especially the way you painted the drums black in the center of each, so cool. Thanks for the recommendation on the paint pen, I may have to try a couple of diff...

Re: Tamiya Sand Scorcher - 2010 Reissue

No. Unfortunately I was a financially strapped college student back in the early '80's so the SS was sold. I don't even have photos - very sad about that. I've bought a few Tamiya kits from Japan and none of them include an ESC. Also, I've read that Tamiya has discontinued manufacturing their own ES...

Re: Tamiya Sand Scorcher - 2010 Reissue

That was a great price from Amazon. A few months ago, I bought a SS re-re from a Japan ebay seller and it included bearings and hex hardware but no ESC. This was only my second Sand Scorcher. My first was purchased back in 1979 or 1980 and it was my first surface RC. Anyway, I've fitted a boxart bod...

Re: .12 Nitro Monster Beetle

One of those Chinese aluminum chassis and some aluminum trailing arm would be cool Yes, I agree. Actually, forget what I've said about using a Kyosho truck. I reckon Derek's MB should be riding its Tamiya ORV or some variant or it loses much of its cool factor. If you're not already doing so, pleas...

Re: .12 Nitro Monster Beetle

Or, buy a truck from Kyosho. The Kyosho equivalent to a Blackfoot would be a Big Brute or Hi Rider Corvette. Both have full plastic diffs (not nylon, plastic) diffs. Only the outdrives are metal, and they look like cast. The spider gears don't even have metal shafts. The dogbones are also...

Re: .12 Nitro Monster Beetle

But, I don't see a thrust bearing under the head of the screw?? I put some grease there. It's not even snug (red Loctite keeps it in place). The screw keeps the diff from separating under load. Not enough room for anything else. With the hex axles, they can rub the screw. When throttle trigger is p...

I could not agree more.
Kyosho's electrics in general, and their Tx's in particular, are the best of any RTR I own. A+

Re: Who remembers the Chrysler Turbine car?

Pontiac Aztec. Awesomeness in disguise? I had a 2008 Pontiac Torrent GXP. It was built on the same platform as the gawdawful-ugly Aztec. Hard to believe the 2 cars shared the same chassis. The Torrent GXP was an excellent SUV, very fast with 263 hp from a 3.6L engine, sport-tuned suspension and exh...

Re: Who remembers the Chrysler Turbine car?

Well, I think this Cobra is also pretty cool. (random web photo) https://photos.autohunter.com/assets/media/af671edb-48a0-4cb0-bb76-d4656c8c57fb_largesize.jpg ... but it isn't turbine powered. FWIW, my 5-speed "GT" also has an SOHC and it's fuel injected. Mustang 5.jpg With only 281...
