1997 Brian Kinwald XX World Champ Replica (updated 11/04/18)
As I promised, I had started my new project, the replica of the Brian Kinwald 1997 World Champs winning XX.
This is really special for me, just because, that's my first travel for a big event.
I had a lot of good memories during this race.
As being in an episod of Bay Watch
I collect parts from a while, I still waiting for few, but I could start something today.
I also had to did several anodising, the blue for sure, but also the Titanium grey of the CVD's.
I started the hand tunning process by the rear tower, clearing the cross section and removing the outer shock position.
After, I clear the pace for the battery plug.
First step of the construction.
The Novak Cyclone, already fit the chassis, the chassis was drilled to screw in the switch.
More to follow !
If somebody could help me with a #A1101 black front bulkhead and a set of #A9701 front graphite XX-CR arms, I really apprciate

Would like to see, but your pictures are to large, and with my less then stellar internet speed, just takes to long to load. Re-size please.

Re: 1997 Brian Kinwald XX World Champ Replica
I remember something really special during that race. Richard Trujilo giving to my friend driving a Losi and representative of our french Team Losi distributor, some special parts to fit the XX.
A special set of Rear CR hubs with an extra outer camber link, this is before Losi modified the mold to had definitively this hole.
Take a look at the difference between the last design and the previous one before and after drilling.
But the most exclusive parts still a rear bulkhead seriously drilled.
In fact they had 2 extra camber link, just in the midle of they originals.
To make it stronger, they gaved some setting screws to insert all around the newer postions.
Difficult to look at the pictures, but if the big washer are to another place, they can't fit as the picture.
The rear suspension 3° toe-In / 2° anti-squat fit a set of what I expect to be a standard set of plastic arms and the tuned rear hubs with the Aluminium MIP Cvd's and the big blue flanged washer.
Now, evrything fir the chassis, the Lunsford turnbuckles and the strong grey Ball Ends did the upper Link.
Finished for this Week-End...

Re: 1997 Brian Kinwald XX World Champ Replica
Superb re-creation as usual Kenooze, the XX is my favourite of all the Losi buggies, & the Worlds winning car of Brian Kinwald must be the ultimate incarnation of the type!
Some of the little tricks that Brian did (& you are re-creating), like trimming off the outer hole & cutting out the web to the rear bulkhead takes me back to when we did the same on our XX back in the 90s.
We also used to cut the back web out of the top 'X' brace - & the front part of the lower 'X' brace.... I didn't, but those running the battery strap would also cut off the tags on the chassis where the velcro battery ties would loop round.
Great build & I look forward to seeing how this progresses...... will you do a shell for it this time?? & Do you have any pictures/scans of the car your replicating?
P.S; About the time of the release of the Kinwald my local model shop got in a few motor mounts anodised in both blue & red (I brought the blue one & my freind got the red one) My blue one was quite a bit different in colour to the Trinty blue parts (much darker) I can't remember whether these where official losi finished parts or whether they were just the silver parts anodised locally??

Re: 1997 Brian Kinwald XX World Champ Replica
Hi did a lot of update, and the end of this project are not so far.
The front end is built, but some details need to be accomplished.
Transmission fully built with dual slipper, kimbrough spur gear.
The Trinity Purple D2 motor with is tuned heatsink fit the motor plate.
The front end fit the king pin and some other special adustements as long screws with nuts, titanium gold suspension pins.
Brian told me than his "E" Clips was gold coated, one more things to do....
The front caster blocks was tuned to fit the king pin, the hubs was switeched from right to left. I still have to hand made a graphite front tower.
