Slider clean-up Wheel/Tire ? added

Post by THEYTOOKMYTHUMB »

This thing was a lot rougher than I initially thought. The shells on these are kind of a bitch to get off compared to other cars so I hadn’t seen inside until today. Had to pretty much go thru the entire thing with a fine tooth comb. Cleaned up pretty well. Nothing more fun than bringing a nice r/c back to life. The Slider isn’t bad car. Built pretty solid and a lot of fun to drive. This will be a racer so I broke into the tranny to take a look. Everything was in great order. All steel gears and no chips. They are not the smoothest transmissions though. They have it filled with thick gummy grease and it doesn’t spin super freely no matter how much you tweak it. Are they all like that? I just want to make sure I don’t have a major problem. Don’t get me wrong, it will run fine, but it’s no stealth. I left the wings and top shell off until my Spektrum rx arrives. I’ll then install esc and battery and leave it in forever! This is not designed to be taken apart very often. Not thrilling, but here’s some before and after. Let me know on the tranny issue if you have one. There are tons to look at at my track, but if it’s an issue only I have I’d like to fix it now. Thanks

After dis-assembling the tranny again after no one else’s at the track felt rough I realized the rear wheels were on too tight! I’ve been in this hobby for roughly 25 years and have built and re-built hundreds of cars. I have nothing to say for such an idiotic noob mistake. I’m sharing this mainly because I didn’t want to mis-lead anyone that this car comes with a bad tranny. It’s actually a great value at $199 RTR with 2.4ghz. I picked up this roller for $50 from a guy at the track. You can probably get a similar deal on eBay.

Can anyone help me with some info on exactly which Losi buggy model's wheels are compatible with the 1/10 Slider? I'm getting ready to clean up a few cars that have been collecting dust and don't want to waste time/money guessing which wheels might work since the originals have gotten harder or more expensive to obtain. Also, any body alternatives? Thanks in advance.

I can't help you with the wheels.

The car cleaned up great. Looks like it will be a blast to run.

Hey Thumbers,
I think my LHS has a few sets hanging on the hooks yet at whatever retail price is if you are interested. Drop me a pm if still in need.

As for other wheels that will work...No clue

Thanks Todd, but I actually ran across a pair I already had. They were in a random drawer. Like most of the members here I have so much r/c crap I don't even know what I have or where it might be. Thanks for lookin' out though! 8)

I dug this out today too. I still have the wheels and never put them on. It's in decent shape too. Needs electronics, but I have several new speed controls I've bought lately with no specific use in mind. I need to get tires so I'll need to research that. Anyone know if they are 2.2 by chance?

Shouldn't you be spending your time looking for Busch Stickers?

Yeah Brian, the previous owner lacked my discerning taste in fine beverages. The bodies are now basically extinct as far as I can tell.

I believe they are 2.0 if you are still using the rims pictured above. if you don't get any other hits for sure drop me a pm and I'll look for sure what size they are...

Thanks Todd, I can measure them and do some research. I was just being lazy. I think you may be right.

Hey Ken,
my chrome ones are 2.0" so the black ones should be too but you pry already know that. If you're needing stock tires for these drop me a pm or if you still have my # drop me a text and I can set you up with stockers. I used a set of the 2" step pins on a set for when our track was so muddy that it wouldn't run any other way and it was a ballistic blast

Sorry Todd, I missed that post because I'm so rarely in the Losi forum. I would have taken you up on that. I just ordered some 2.2s that seem like they will work. Then again, I probably have ordered more mis-matched rims and tire sets than most people have matching sets!
