Some losi parts variations

Post by aconsola »

I was building a pair of runners from several incomplete cars and my used parts stash and noticed some variations among the parts.

There are 3 types of rear bulkhead. The upper left one has been hacked up by the previous owner, but you can see on the front how it is different aroud the lower shock tower mounting holes. This area was filled in on the other 2 so that the inner camberlink ballstud holes could be added. there are 2 versions with the inner holes, one with 2 holes, one with 3.

There are 2 side bulkhead types, one with a support ridge around the outside, and one without.

The rear links that go side to side come in 2 variations, one with 4 holes, one with none.
The lower links have 3 variations, one with 2 shock mount holes, one with 2 shock mount holes and vertical reinforcement ribs, and one with 4 shock mount holes with the vertical ribs.
The upper links came with 2 variations, one has 4 support ribs, the other has only 3. this provides better clearance for the shock when the link is placed so that the flat part is down and inboard.

The 2 junior chassis plates have some differences, I am not sure if one is from a 2 and the other a jr-T, or if it was just a running change. What I believe to be the newer of the 2 has a recess for the servo saver and under the transmission, as well as a raised area for the antenna mount. This also has un-drilled holes marked out on the bottom corresponding to where the long wheelbase optional holes are on the lxt/pro-se chassis.

There are several motor plates at least 4 different front bulkheads, but I don't have all of them for a comparison shot.
any others I missed?

Here are some variations on the shock parts.

There are the older. thinner lower shock mount eyelets compared to the newer thicker eyelets.

The clamps were originally the thin type, but broke easily. they were updated to the wide type which is still available. I have NIP thin in both black and grey, but have never seen the wide ones molded in black. The one package I have of black new style eyelets with black spring retainers has a pair of grey wide shock clamps, so I do not think that black wide clamps were made.

The lower spring retainers have 2 variations, the older ones have a longer shank, the newer ones are shorter and have a small R molded into the outside. These were both available in black or grey.

Here are some variations of the front bulkhead.
the original has jrx2 logo with a ribbed/extended front section to protect the nose of the graphite chassis.
the next is jrx2 logo with flat botom
last is the team losi logo with flat bottom.
Later on they molded the bulkhead out of a white material, but I do not have any of those.

This was pretty interesting to see... theres definitely certain ones i'd prefer! It also makes me remember my XXT-CR and want to build a JRX2.

Wow very nice post. I should dig out all my goodies I saved before we moved buildings. I have all kinds of different color parts that were used for testing, I even have a see through 4 row rear tire.
The box is buried in my storage unit, so it won't be anytime soon, but I will dig it out.

Thanks for sharing,

Welcome Rich. I saw your name on the member list a while ago and was excited that you decided to join. I know myself and Anthony would love to see some pics of various Losi parts in the secret arsenal. If anything, I would love to see the history of what could have been, so that it could be documented accordingly.

Again, welcome! :D

He's on RC Crawler too. Having seen some of his stuff... he's got some really nice stuff. He's also into Hot Wheels (a buddy of mine knew him through there and didn't know he worked in RC) so i'm pretty sure that makes Rich the most accessible person working for an RC company.

one more set.
Here are 8 different pairs of bellcranks. I do not know which ones came in what order, I assume that white were first, then black, then red.
The variations I have are:
1: Red Rigid ball bearing with 2 ballstud holes
2: white Servo Saver monster truck with metal sleeve inserts
3: White servo saver
4: Black servo saver ball bearing
5: Black servo saver
6: red rigid 2 ballstud holes
7: red rigid single ballstud hole
8: black servo saver, larger diameter rack mount, small diameter post mount.

The last pair (lower right) is an oddball. Compared to all other servo saver types, It has a larger cuff around the area where the shoulder screw attaches it to the rack(same diameter as the rigid ones), and a smaller diameter barrel where it mounts to the aluminum post on the chassis(unlike any other). It also has the idler arm shaped like the ones in the rigid arm sets, not like the servo saver idler arms.
If I come across any others I'll add them.

It's been a while and I've accumulated a few more.
This first one I just recently discovered.
There are apparently 2 versions of the spindles.
One has a big side indicator letter with a support rib that is sharply 90degrees to the arm.
The other has a small letter on top and the joint between the arm and rib have been filled in, looking kind of like a weld.
I only have one of the "big R" variety and no matching left.

Edit 9/13/08 I found a matching pair of the old style:

Next is just a rehash of an older post. I had been trying to get nip links to build up another car and somehow I ended up with 3 different sets. Luckily I have since been sorted thanks to a couple members.

There are quite a few motor plates, and I don't have all of them. Here is what I've got:
No logo no notch(just got it today thanks to Jay)
JRX-2 no notch
jrx-2 notched
team losi performance notched
Team losi performance notched purple anodized

I also have a Team losi performance notched, dark anodized, but it is mounted on an xx retro trans, and that is entirely too much work to get the plate off just for a picture 8)

The last(I think) variation is the yellow anodized counterpart to the purple one. I'm still searching for that one.
The attachment motorplates.jpg is no longer available
Not exactly Losi, but who doesn't like the litespeed heatsink plates? :D
As far as I know both the notched and un-notched versions share the same part number as did all the losi versions, all just running changes. The 2 notched plates I have are in a dark blue finish, but the un-notched one is Black. I don't know if they changed color when they changed over or if that is just random variation in their anodizing which seems to be different at times from my experience with some of their other items I have seen.

edit
Purple anodized,
yellow powdercoat,
dark anodized "team losi logo,"
no-anodize logo(pre-production sample),
notched JRX-2,
solid jrx-2,
no logo,
litespeed heasink, and
litespeed notched.

Bellcranks and steering spindles updated above in their respective posts, and some new ones:
2 versions of the topshaft for the "LRM" transmission.
The original has a brass gear pressed onto splines. the later version has a steel gear pinned and e-clipped onto the top-shaft.
The later version of the topshaft is required for fitting aftermarket gears such as the thorp delrin gear or the MIP 2.60 change box kit.

Bearing spacer/shield for the transmission outdrives.
Some of the early kits came with aluminum machined spacers, most had the plastic variety. With all the cars I've owned, this is the only set of aluminum spacers I have been able to aquire.

The front carriers have 2 versions. The older version has 2 shallow holes(1 on each side) on the post for the ballstud. The transition from the post to the body of the carrier is very sharp. The later version has the holes filled in, and the joint from the post to the body is not as sharp, it is filled in just like the updated spindles above.

Anthony, where does a white front bulkhead fit into the scheme of things? Found this yesterday in a box of Losi things and thought it was kind of odd. Not the best of pictures but you get the idea.
