I have a NIB cruise control switch for a 1983 ford escort gt. Now I know there isn't many of those around (the NIB switches or cars for that matter) but you better darn know that I'm gonna open it up and use it if the need arises  .

Open it up and "fondle the sacks" and if it matters that much to you I'm sure someone out there has a shrinkwrap machine you can use to put it back to its original sale state. No one out there will ever know it was opened once (or more times) before

But..........................since the only barrier is shrink wrap, I would be tempted to open it up to see what variation of parts it holds. Is it a revision A, B or C etc. :?:
I would never build it, find a nice one and clean it up.

P.S. take nice pics of it sealed and being un-sealed
I like these word they make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Always open the shrink wrap, otherwise we will accuse you of having a "box of rocks". Happened to a member here, and it will happen again!

Then reseal. Good to go for another 25 years

Serious? Someone bought a NIB item and it was "rocks"?

With out names and such, what happened?? I make use of a shrink wrap machine at work all the time.

If something comes in NIB, we wrap it even if it is still shrink wrapped and put our sticker on the outside. If something comes in new and no wrap, we wrap it and label it as house wrapped, still new.

The shrink wrap helps keep prying fingers out, or we put it behind glass. I don't doubt people do that all the time.

The amount of fake gold out there is crazy, with prices being what they are (were)... Gold is one item that is faked on a huge scale.

Side note: To any of you reading this, DO NOT BUY any gold from anyone in any parking lot, casino, beer shop, grocery outlet etc etc. They say they need gas money or whatever. Almost always stamped 18K. You will regret it.

Figuratively "rocks"....

Not knocking that kit, but it's not an early kit, and without it being open, there is no real way to know what's in there ( I bought a SNIB 6036 Graphite team car from ebay to find it re-wrapped and full of newspaper and parts )

If you want to build it and shelve it, then have a blast doing it  I say open her up

Open it up and see is what I say then. If it is still new, not used. Hmmm.

I have one here, BK signed on the shrink wrap. I just might have to build it. 8)

I hope you guys make sure the kits are bone dry and warm for a week before you shrink wrap them. If kits have come out of storage in a loft or basement (which is pretty common) all you are doing is trapping dampness inside the box with plastic for years. I'd always rather allow a box to breath air and keep it in a warm dry regularly used room. Just my 2p.

Open it up already!
Better you than someone else.

You know Losi's gonna re-pop the jr-x soon enough anyways.

So I was checking out the old X2 this weekend, and kept obsessing on the shrink wrap. Especially this one little tear. It was really bothering me. Show here right above the wing... I went ahead and starting to see if there was a way I could seal that back up and make it less noticeable.

Now you gotta build it.

But beware, maybe it'll be like all those horror movies where they discover an ancient crypt or coffin or something...you'll carefully take the box lid off, and a puff of decades-old dusty air will foosh out...and who knows what's lurking inside?

Think of that short story "The Crate" from Stephen King's movie, the original Creepshow.

All at once I was horrified and thrilled. And then it hit me, I can finally silence all those bozos on 10talk that said it was probably just full of rocks.

So I opened up.

And turns out the guys were right. But it wasn't rocks.

Not a box of rocks....... IT WAS A BOX OF SOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so pissed right now...............
