That's a very bad position for this specific esc. It runs really hot and your shell will suffer badly.

Yeah I need to build another shelf but bend the upper mounting "ear" up which would be weaker but shorter. Or make a two hole shelf mounted to the lower bulkhead screws only. Or just scrap it and use an esc that will fit on the deck. But this is my actual first esc ever from bitd so I will rework the shelf at some point. The heatsinks extend about 1/32" above the top of the rear tower. So yeah you are right, something to sort out next time I have time. Thanks dude.

Can't you turn the shelf upside down?

I would still need to build a new one if I went that route because the screws are arranged in a trapazoidal pattern. Then there is the issue of the esc mounting ears. It would need to be pretty wide. But I'm picking up that brainwave your throwing out there and I will need to take another look at the spatial logistics of the upside down option. I like it! Thanks. I was stuck on the "it has to look like this".

Edit: Can't go too low due to battery angles when putting in and taking out the battery pack

Mark

Or I just buy one from oldrc.com but I'm trying to keep it somewhat period.
Hope you're doin' something fun.

if you want to g as low as it can get: use saddle packs. You can slide the first pack under the ESC and the second pack drops in place in frontof that.

I was thinking because the ESC has the servo ears I am going to mount it to the tower with some servo mounts so it would/will sit vertically. AND I can't justify the purchase and transmission work if I don't run it. I've been having a little bit of buyers regret lately. I think I'll plug in a Tamiya Dirt Tuned and take it out on some different rubber. It's a sin either way. Light running. Might wait for a indoor carpet offroad opportunity. Just scooting around, not racing it axle nuts out.
