Losi.com forum is dead

Post by mytimac »

They killed it off just in the last few weeks. It now redirects to Facebook. It never was real popular. Lately it had gotten over run by spammers. Looks like they threw in the towel. I don't blame them, it takes a lot of work to keep up on those things. Kind of sad though as well. Many a person in the vintage section I redirected here to ask questions.

It makes me sad, but it seems forums in general are fading away. I used to moderate on another forum that had several hundred thousand members. It was exceedingly busy, and we got a lot of folks the help they needed. My own build threads would go dozens of pages and get hundreds of thousands of views. Then Facebook started to pull away from the forums in recent years. In my opinion, the Facebook groups do not take the place of forums. I dearly love watching long build threads play out. You're there with the guy step by step watching it progress. There is no continuity on Facebook where the same subject matter is grouped together like in a forum. It's just random things all in a line.

I guess times change and I'm just not keeping up.

You're definitely not alone in your thoughts on this.

To make matters worse, it even seems that facebook is now 'old folk' territory with even faster, more nebulous and fractured social media taking it place among younger users, ala instagram, twitter, and snapchat.

Seems we live in an ADHD world anymore.

I wonder if it's actually the popularity of forums causing them to die off? When a forum becomes really popular, it starts costing more and more money to host it...and because people typically think of forums as free information, too few people make the necessary donations to keep them alive. I'm unfortunately guilty of that...I'm a big member of at least 4 major forums and I can't afford to donate to all of them.

Instagram and Snapchat, IMO, seems to be the internet-for-idiots. For people for whom pictures and appearance is far more important than substance.

Trying to always be the guy who puts his money where his mouth is, I just made a donation to help keep this place above water.

I am bummed as well about the state of forums lately. There is such great information on this site, and some really amazing and helpful members. I have received so much help on this forum. I am very thankful for that. I am doing my best to keep the Losi section going with my build threads. That is the only reason I do all these XXT builds, lol.

I don't know Jeff, I'm feeling like Kyosho had their taste of Rere, and are moving on... I am losing hope that a rere Ultima will ever appear. MAYBE they are finishing off the whole series of circuit1000s and then will do it.... but maybe not.
