Bosscat works question.

Post by autoxvw »

Did the bosscat works come with the alloy roller drive shafts like the cougar 2 works did?

Hi autoxvw, I believe the roller drive shafts did not come as standard on the BossCat Works model, but would have been available as an option.

The Cougar2 Works came in two versions - one had the roller drive shafts & ballraced steering - the other without

Too be honest - no matter how nice these drive shafts look, their performance advantage is negligible, the durability of the standard telescopic sliders in my mind outweighs any slight performance gain of the roller shafts.

DerbyDan, yeah I know the plastic ends are fairly fragile. For runners yeah it sucks but most my vehicles are shelters anyway. Lol.
I did not know they the cougar works came in 2 versions though. I though the team (red) chassis cam with plastic sliders and non bearing steering and then the works (purple) chassis came with the alloy sliders and bearing steering along with other differences.

The red chassis cars were the original range of Cougar2 - there were 3 versions - Sport, Racing & Team specs - the top 'Team' spec cars came with ball raced steering & roller shafts (just like the top of the range 'Works' cars)

From timeline thread
1991 Cougar 2 Sport U429H £95 Hybrid 23mm diff, varishocks but no slipper and not fully ballraced
1991 Cougar 2 Racing U430I £119 Slipper, 10 sealed ballraces, full spring set
1991 Cougar 2 Team U431J £150 Roller d/shafts, fully ballraced inc. steering

There were the two versions of the Works cars which echoed the spec of the Racing & Team variants but both versions came with Carbon Fibre shock towers, compact gearbox (with Lexan gear cover), hard anodised (dark grey) shocks, different rear wishbones & hubs & of course the purple anodised chassis with different hole spacing for gearbox along with cut-outs to allow full movement of the rear suspension.

I've run both my Bosscat and Cougar Works with and without roller shafts, and can't honestly say I noticed any difference in suspension performance.

Look cool though.

The roller driveshafts were the only driveshafts for a buggy I can recall that were upgradeable with ball bearings..... I still have a pair of the bearings somewhere, but never fitted them to a driveshaft to see how much of an improvement they were....

I have 2 pair of the bearings as well but I don't want to take the alloy rollers apart in fear of breaking the plastics. The plastic parts are impossible to find!!
