MX-4 Questions

Post by LTO_Dave »

I just did a complete tear-down of my MX-4 today, and wanted to know if you guys could help me I.D. it more specifically? I bought it from Reggie a while ago, and I think he bought it from someone on RC Tech because that's where I found these pics of the exact car I currently own.

I'm just wondering of it's a special edition or possibly a team driver's car based on all the blue anodized aluminum bits? It also has front and rear Yokomo MIP gold aluminum CVD's and titanium turnbuckles. It's the only MX-4 I've come across online with the following blue parts:

- all four wheel hubs
- main gear adapter/pulley
- servo saver prop & adjuster
- upper deck shock mount, spring holders & pivot ball
- upper shock pivots
- front I-arm support posts
- battery holder posts
- upper deck stand-offs
- regular motor mount

I know you could buy the lightweight motor mount, upper deck stand-offs and steering posts anodized blue from Yokomo, but I've never seen the other blue parts available separately.

Hello Dave, i assume they are standard parts that have been anodized afterwards.

How many of those parts are shared with Yokomo touring cars? There's a few special versions of those that do include a lot of blue parts...

There were parts for mr4bc and mr4 touring that were blue anodized available. MR4bc could be optioned out for full carbon type chassis, so some of that hardware would translate directly to mx4. Its quite possible that some mr4bx alloy parts would be a direct fit as well.

I know that servo saver posts, and motor mount are available as blue. Others, never seen before in blue. The gear adapter is probably mr4 direct drive, as its availble in blue.

What I find interesting about your car are the carbon fiber top deck and shock towers. Mine is all frp smooth black fiberglass I suppose, and I have never seen hop up parts in carbon weave for that car.

Thanks guys! I was leaning more toward it being a custom anodizing job, but I still have no idea. All of the parts are identical in color to each other and match the color of the NIP blue Yokomo upper deck posts I used on my YR-4M2. I'll post a pic of all the blue parts together.

I did find a pic of Alex B's MX-4 and it has the blue battery holder posts. The MR-4BX has a blue servo saver prop and adjuster, so maybe my car has one of those? And I've read online that the kits included black FRP upper decks and towers, but I've seen several cars with these parts in CF. I've seen the towers and part of the upper deck NIP on ebay in CF, so maybe they're hop-ups? Mine also has a ZM-301G CF front bulkhead support.

Does anyone have a rough list of the parts that interchange between the MX-4 and other cars? Will the MR-4TC front and rear bulkhead fit an MX-4?

The motor mount looks like a custom job (rather crude compared to the other parts). For the top shock mount, I think it exists in blue as an option.
