My Lazer ZX and ZX-RR

Post by keithrc »

I've had this Lazer ZX for around 18 months or so now, it's another ebay purchase. This is the car that Team Blue Groove used to model their Lazer ZX repro body sets with. It no longer has the white 5 spoke wheels but the original yellow ones. I was told by the seller the car was used for racing on a couple occasions but was otherwise not run.

Since I started buying Optima's I thought that since I used to race a Lazer ZX as well I should get another one of them as well, and this was the first one that came up when I had some spare dollars.

If I recall correctly, it came with no motor or reciever but did have the steering servo. I put in an EzRun 13T brusless/ESC combo with a Futaba 2.4G 2PL radio. The motor seems to get a bit hot, with the 20T pinion so I might try an 18T. Later on I'll get a repro body set and do it in Box art.

That looks an absolute peach Keith, great work. Good choice putting the standard yellow wheels on too, compliments the blue and white body more than the white wheels would.

Looks proper mint, inc the gold shocks, nice!

I have a Lazer ZX too, that I'll be restoring soon, when I get the chance

Thanks Sheriff, it had those wheels on it when I bought it, all I've done is put the electrics in.

I'm feeling a bit inspired so thought I'd post up pics of my recently acquired Lazer ZX-RR.

It was advertised on Oople and I decided I wanted it so now it's mine. It's pretty clean and mostly original as far as I know, it came with the box and a beaten up body/wing but unfrtunately the seller couldn't find the manual. I'll get a repro body set for it in the near future.

Pics,

There's another ZX to come when I take some pics of it.

BTW, I've ordered a Lazer ZX-5 FS2 SP for a good price, not vintage but I'm really looking forward to recieving it.

That looks like a nice project

Maybe I should start reading the FS section on Oople

I'd read the one on here too but despite three attempts the mods won't activate my account for some reason

keithrc do you know who made that front shock tower? Is it aftermarket or a stock item?

Looks aftermarket to me

Original zx-rr did not come with carbon fibre front and rear towers

Fibrelyte seem likely

I thought these shock towers were stock items on the ZX-RR but looking at the manual I downloaded obviously they're not. Might look into it a bit more.

Just did a google search regarding the shock towers but didn't find much so I had a look at the Fiber-lyte site and it looks like that's where at least the front tower came from, it's the universal one on the right in this pic.

I haven't yet found what the original shock tower looked like so if anyone can help?

Dozens of high-res 2+ MB images that get re-attached every time your post gets quoted means you have to scroll endlessly just to get down the page. Not to mention the viewable portion of several of the pictures are blurry or not even of the car, but your bed or something. The forum doesn't show whatever's outside of the horizontal viewable frame. And this is on a 27" monitor, no less. I can't imagine how it looks on a cellphone or tablet.
