Finally finished my new build Lazer ZX-S

Post by wydraz »

Here's my new built ZX-S. This came as standard with yokomo wheel adaptors/wheels and Losi shocks - and a numbered owners card.

This version was followed by the Evo - unsure how many of each were made but I'll be keeping hold of this for a while as it must be pretty rare.

Body off pics soon :)

Looks great, 300 ZXS and 200 ZXS Evo's and a handful of prototypes, one of which I still run.

Thanks James.

Any idea how the numbering convention works?

Unsure, think it may relate to the series of buggies but will email my contacts in Japan Kyosho and will update. Word of advice, if your going to run it you may break the front gearbox as its brittle as ice.

Looks great, the ZX-S is a thing of beauty

I will be posting more pics of mine once I get all the anodised pieces on it.

How hard was the box art paint job, I have a spare genuine shell (not sure how rare it is) that I want to do in box art though I only have repro decals

Why is that so, is the gearbox different than that of the ZX ?

Not going to run it - it'll stay as new for it's life with me :)

The box art paint was done by Strawberry Racing Designs in Portugal - he's really good.

That looks pretty cool. Would be very curious to see it without the body on...

This car was a prototype that never got the full attention of Kyosho so never had the bad designs sorted. Gearboxes are totally different, front gearbox cracks due to the kick up section flexing and the gearbox casings were milled out and caused them to break when just racing the buggy and not crashing hence why I resdesined it for my car. This was sold mainly as a matketing tool as not only do it look stunning but did work stupidly well on low grip dirt, dust and clay tracks, so good Masami got beaten in the Japanese nats the year after he won the worlds by a team driver (i have the set up sheet somewhere with his name on) using the zxs.

I've always been intrigued by the similarity of the ZXS' gearbox designs and those of the TF-4 - any known parentage between those two?
