Imna get 1 for the body and then use the rest for restomodding some other Kyosho cars. Ive got my scorpion built,, so thats good enough to represent the breed in my fleet.

Tower has bumped it out to Late November for the Beetle (had been mid October, which of course has come and gone)

getting a little too close to Christmas for me now.

It looks so much like a sand scorcher - even the chassis. But then the tires and some other bits look like the RC10

I had a Sand Scorcher as my first car, but first went off road racing with the Kyosho Beetle.
I never thought there were any similarities at the time.
except neither car had a diff.
or slotted motor mount holes.
ok, so now you mention it, a couple of things the same ;) but night and day in terms of performance.

Seriously, neither car had a diff? Ive never owned either car so wasnt aware of that. I did have a turbo scorpion,, and that did have a diff. So, how was rear drive handled,, just locked solid?

The Tomahawk was the first of the Circuit 1000 cars that had a differential :)

Alright, that touched a nerve. :P Watch The Winning Edge video...the earliest prototypes for the RC10 were damn near a clone of the Circuit 1000 cars.

The Circuit 1000 chassis is older than the RC10 by two years and was created off the rear end of the Rally Sports Renault Alpine chassis....which came out the same year as the Sand Scorcher. The Sand Scorcher and Beetle may have some chassis similarities but that's because they both derived their designs from the 1/8 scale offroad gassers that came before them. ;)

on the beetle it was just a solid drive piece yes.
Sort of like a spool nowadays I guess.
it pushed pretty hard when trying to make turns that was for sure.

you sure?
Our Scorpions all had diffs.
The Beetle sacrificed the diff to make the car a little cheaper.
if I'm remembering correctly.

Yes I'm sure the first Scorpions didn't came with gear-diff, there were sold as option SC-50 later on.

your memory must be better than mine :)

I did the SC-50 upgrade to my Beetle. transformed that car :) mind you this was 1985, and I didn't know much about cars then.

Not to mention a diff is pretty much useless if the car was intended to be driven in the sand!

never THOUGHT ABOUT that, asso-man

Well I am getting one of these, I have made a scorpion chassis, complete, and put on it a vintage sand scorcher body, had to cut the chassis short at the rear and than cut the front bits off where the bumper bolts, but because I LOVE the VW beetle, and since Tamiya SS is the best looking around, I had to do all this. It is nice looking, just ordered some carbon fiber servo mount and 2 pairs of CNC machined caster locks form Banzai, cheaper than ebay, just waiting on those and ordered bearing from BOCA, the flanged ones for vintage setup of course. Yes the beetle will again give Tamiya SS a run for its money, and we all know who will come out winning, but its not about that, kyosho made it to compete but now it is an iconic piece, those who have and love the sand scorcher will also love this - the kyosho beetle, I love its aggressive looks, just wish they would do a plastic hard body like the SS. would be super, laxen is good for high performance and racing but for looks not that detailed and you really can't do much with it.
