Kyosho NSR hang on rider

Post by GoMachV »

Finally decided to crack the kit open. I found this one with a real decent BIN price and when I opened the box I found more goodies! The extended battery, bearings, and RS-M set were all inside. Score!

Anyway, since I will be running this i decided a brushless setup would be best, although the current motor is a 7800kv which is about twice what it should be. The speed control is a hobbywing and the servo a hitec hs85mg. I need to tighten up the rider a bit, he tends to stay leaning in the last direction. Other than that and getting a 4500kv motor it is about ready to go

I will probably end up machining the front flywheel down, and adding better tires. I'd like to grab the metals gearbox and gear set too. I have already installed bearings in the triple tree which is odd I see nobody else doing and they are standard size.

I did not think you were into motor cycles Jeff. Looks like a really nice detailed kit. Looking forward to see what you do to this as it is outside the norm.

Oh yeah, if it has wheels or t##s I want to play with it! Lol

Here is the HOR next to my static rider that is well used up. The weight difference as they sit minus battery is 4oz

It will be interesting to see if that disc brake will fit. It's pretty tight in the chassis to have to stuff another servo in there

Finally sat down an played with some things today. Got my oval washers on the gearbox, installed the lower kv motor, and locked up the head/set up the direct steering. Once I know this works as well as they say it does I will make the head more permanent and trim off the shaft leaving me with room for a brake servo. Also plan to run a micro servo for the rider, that should be interesting!

And yes, it fits under the tank!

Weighted front wheel helps it stay upright, other than that it leans (stock) by throwing it's head off axis and the wheel just flops to where it's happy. The rider leans to help it also, but the old bike didn't and it handled better lol.

I just made a foam insert and mounted up the venom tire. Took it for a spin, it goes straight as a knife, leans instantly right to the bars but won't turn. On or off throttle. I have read that setting up the steering spring tension is the hardest part of the direct steer, so I guess I need to play with it more. It is faster than stock but so far the handling sucks hahaha

I've recently rekindled my interest in RC bikes. I had one of these but never finished it. Curious to see this progress and will be patiently waiting for a video.
