I used a ProTech I for my restored Turbo Optima. It came out pretty nice.

Notarex "Team colors" are corsa grey and white. This one is going to be a baja bug 8). The fast one will probably get a regular optima shell.

Progress on the fast one:

Some parts came in and I made a 1/2" taller shock tower.

To fit the big bore velvets. It had to be done

The belt drive and thorp FP make it real smooth. Once I run this and get a feel for the front tower, I'll cut the front+back and top plate out of carbon fiber.

I plan on handily defeating any Grasshoppers that come my way , but also being handily defeated by any xx4s and lazers in the other class. It's all for fun

How thick is the aluminum Pargu used for the shock towers, compared to the structurally weak OEM towers? I suppose you polished that front tower, I don't think Pargu would do that, does he?

Pargu supplied the front brace only. The shock tower is of my own design and fabrication. Kyosho uses .080 alum for the stamped parts approx 2mm. I used .090 5052 alloy as it's what I had. It's really only a placeholder until the design is proven and I can run some CF parts. I know polishing is played out, but it did give new life to some otherwise dingy parts. Plus I like shiny stuff

Edit: Maybe I should clarify, the chassis parts are not the polished kit from pargu, they were the dingiest of the 4 sets I had, so I sanded them out and polished them on wheels.

Absolutely.

Caution though for Grasshoppers  with the 1985 World Championship Trinity Monster Horsepower! These things spit rocks and donuts like none other. I chuckle every time I say Grasshopper, more so in this context.

Thanks Kaiser, it means a lot- I hope to see you there in September. I've got it mocked up now with a prototype top plate, it seems to fit great so I will run the final pieces out of CF next week. The parma e-clip balls are sweet, I worked in some stainless hardware and tower ball ends, turnbuckles are forthcoming. I have enough parts to build 1-1/2 more optimas, so I may build one more to sell and fund some of this madness. Another member of the family should be arriving this weekend, I didn't ignore all of Coelacanth's original advice  - we'll see how it measures up.

Yes, todays the day everybody gets carbon fiber

Image

Top plate for Goldie, and top plate/shock towers for the fast one. I put the pargu brace on instead of the Hot Trick, and added some cheap turnbuckles. Traxxas turnbuckles for $3, enough to do the steering for both cars and $7 Tamiya F201 turnbuckles for the camber links. This ones kinda turning into a shelfer now that I have the Mid, I don't know if I want to drive it in anger . Mid's getting the CF treatment too, I'll post pics once I have it in one piece.

Image

I scored a vintage Academy body with undertray for 5 bucks at the LHS, looks like it will fit the Mid quite nicely- anybody recognize what it's for? It had about 20 years of dust on it so you know it's good lol
