Ascot Turbo Scorpion

Post by Phin »

Only a mock-up for now to test how everything fit together....which is remarkably well. I was able to use existing holes on the rear arm mounting plate for the rear of the cage but they do push the main cage about 1/2" further ahead of the rear wheels than it would be on an RC10. Can't drill new holes far enough back on the plate because then the cage would be between the rear arm pivots.

The front beams on the main cage match the width of the chassis rails almost perfectly. It would only have been better if the holes to mount the Scorpion tub to the chassis rails were a half inch further back. I'll use some scrap material to make a connection fromt the bottom of the cage beams to the chassis tub holes so I wont have to drill new holes to mount the cage.

I will have to drill two new holes on the chassis rails to mount the front of the nerf bars though.

At the front I was screwing around with moving the front beam up to the bumper holes in order to lower the ride height and extend the wheelbase. The stock shock stays don't work well with the arms pushed forward though so I was trying to think up an alternative upper shock mount.

Rear shocks mount nicely. Couldn't use the stock rear tower but there's no binding with the mounts on the cage and they're also higher so that helps lower the ride height at the rear. Used two long arm pivots to raise the arms up as well. Will also add a spacer under the trans mounting so that way shocks can get more up travel before the dogbones hit the top of the outdrive cups.

Now I'll tear it all back down, clean up the aluminum parts, cut a top deck/radio tray, figure out how I want to attach the bottom of the fuel tank guard to the chassis, and buy some new re-re chassis rails since all mine are junk. :D
