My "collection"

Post by oddster »

Hi, new here, and i got a passion for old kyoshos, especially the turbo optima mid. Most probably because i got one when i was about 8:) Now I have a few, one NIB, one shelfqueen and one runner. and a lot of spare parts. So many spares that I actually can make another runner (lwb) :)
here are some pictures:

nib with nib transmitter/esc/motor

runner, just after finishing:

it has new 2.2 inch wheels/tires, and a lot more scratches now:) top speed measured to 47 km/h (29mph) on 2 cell lipo

A project where i try to convert a mini-z optima to a turbo optima mid, and a marui(?) model beside:

LWB optima mid series, for spares:

more spares:

new LWB project, will add traxxas brushless esc and motor, and 2,4ghz transmitter.

I have a lot more spareparts for my mids, but it will make this post a lot more boring:)

Nice cars and I am especially jealous of your 240s. You need to add a Turbo Optima to put it in!

thanks, I might build the nib turbo optima mid with all the futaba-electronics, and put in the 240 s..:) Or not. I paid a lot for the items on ebay (think the car and transmitter-set was sent from Japan). Can not ruin the value by putting it together i think.. Thats why i have a runner as well:) Just have to add, when i bought a lot of parts, i got a lot of differentials, and even some ball-diff, complete, front and rear:) Also have a few ot-85 in aluminium/steel/whatever. So how much do you guys think a turbo optima mid can handle? i really want to try 3cell.. i guess the speed will go up to about 60-70 km/h.. and thats damn fast for a 1/10 i think. And most certainly more than me with my skills can handle:)

I'm far from an expert on mids, but I've found the speed on 2s to be more than enough. With 3s I would upgrade the idler at the very least and turn the punch down. Nice collection!

You'd definitely need a modern slipper gear assembly installed to handle 3S, but really, why would you want to go 60+?

I'm a very modest driver, probably similar to you, and I can honestly say going over 40 mph in a 1/10-scale car is pushing the limits of controllability--unless all you're doing is straight-line speed runs up and down the street. I think a motor along the lines of 11T or 12T would be plenty of power, coupled with a modern ESC that you can dial down the punch.

Did anyone notice the carbon chassis on the LWB Mid, that might be an OTW-5
And the wide yellow wheels in the spare parts photo

When you get a chance list what other bits came with it there could be some really interesting stuff in the mix
Are there any bodies or wings amongst it all?

took some more photos. I found 4 ball diffs, 4 dampers (incomplete), and some spareparts for gold dampers. Took a photo of one of the carbon fibre chassis. I have no extra bodies, but that's easy to buy from marwan i guess:) Same with tires:)

anyone know what dampers these are? and the big bumper? It's not from a mid..
There are more parts, but I think these are the most interesting, at least for now.

The shocks are Platinum shocks
They came on the Turbo Optima Mid SE and Turbo Ultima and IIRC Turbo Rocky
The bumper I believe is from a Burns

The chassis does look like an otw-5, have you got pics of the other chassis?

thanks for the info! here is a picture of the other lwb chassis. I don't think it's made of the same material, but it is in great condition.

I have such a chassis plate for my optima.

I don't think its an original kyosho part. Mine is new and I bought it as after-market part.

Nice collection btw :)
