Lazer rebuild 1
So...I started a clean/rebuild on the broken Lazer ZX. This turned out to be more of an issue than I thought. I had gotten this "pre-broken" from a buddy, so I wasn't involved in the original build. I didn't notice much during the tear down, but I didn't expect to. However on the rebuild, I found a few missing parts, incorrect screws and such like that. Most of it I managed to find replacements for missing screws, spacers, and washers, but I'm still missing a couple parts for the center clutch, so I can't run it at the moment. Can't seem to find them on ebay as yet either.
When the car was broken, the rear pivot bulkhead was broken. The pivot pin was missing, and somewhere along the line, the suspension arm disappeared. Several years ago, my brother was working at a place that had a CNC machine, so he took the suspension arm in and they made a pair. They've sat in a box till now. I wasn't even sure they'd work, but as you can see, they do pretty well. One of the pivot pins had to be pressed in, but other than that, they work fine.
Starting point:
The replacement parts:
And the one-off suspension arms:
My handy instruction manual:
Apparently my buddy had tried to glue things together, I had to scrape gobs of hardened epoxy off the chassis plate and rear of the front diff housing:
The finished chassis:
And with the wheels on. if you're familiar enough with the original Lazer, you can see where I'm missing the shoulder washer/cover and the nut/set screw for the center clutch.
I'd get new wheels and tires if I was going to run it, but I still have a few other things to work out - batteries and chargers and such. It could stand a new body as well, and it has no wing unless I have a spare in the parts box; I haven't checked.

Very nice, brings back memories of when I got mine in 89 and still race it now.

Re: Lazer rebuild 1
Thanks. I think I've found the parts I need on ebay, they're on the way now. Also, I'm looking for some decent 2.2 wheels. Any suggestions?
Re: Lazer rebuild 1
Annsman (before they changed to team c) mad rat wheels are a perfect fit & seen a black set with tyres for sale on ebay and are strong and better than Kyosho, unsure of the team C replacement parts.
Also the one way washer you can get away with a normal washer the same size but instead of the kyosho nut with allen key just reverse a nyloc nut (stops coming loose by doing this) and tighten until there is still fractional movement if that is you require the one way.otherwise i think you may have easily found the correct washer as a lot are on ebay.

Re: Lazer rebuild 1
Thanks, I'll look up those wheels. I wondered about using a standard washer, but I found a kit on ebay that has the correct shoulder washer and nut, it just arrived yesterday. It has 2 of the washers, so now I'll have a spare.
Now I just need to figure out my battery/charger/radio situation. I still have all my old stuff, just deciding if I want to upgrade and if so, how much.

Lrp quadra charger is ace, gives you a chance to do all batteries but if you go lipo youll need to buy the balance cable. Its also got a usb socket which is handy. Also tekin do a tiny esc so loads of options out there.
