Progress gallop gearbox woes

Post by rccars4sal »

Im trying to assemble progress gallop gear boxes. No matter how I build the rear diff, it locks up. Not really many ways to change it around.

Seems like the more I mess with them, the worse they get.

WOndering if anybody has found the perfect fix for this.

All used parts very clean. Was hoping that new scorpion diff might fit, then I remembered its based off ultima rb6, so slim chance it will.

Its very strange. When its all built, everything is pretty tight. Not a lot of wiggle room between the gears. In a best case scenario the diff will work ok for a short while then lock up intermittently.

To me, its as though the diff gears are just not meshing well enough, almost like metric and sae pitch gears trying to mesh. Possibly the spider gears worn out, because although they look ok, they do seem spindly, and smoothed out a bit.

The soft bevelgears doesn´t wear even - so either line them up as they were or break the differential in again.

I´d recommend breaking in the diff with abrasive putty or the coarse "toothpaste" the dentists use when cleansing teeth.

Ive had to shelf them again! Was going over the plastics and they are so nice and clean. A bit frustrating. No time to work them in, or deburr right now. If I can get past the rear diff issue,, these will almost fly together.
