My Ultima Pro Regen

Post by HairTrigger »

Welcome to my first RC car build thread!

This is number 1 of 2 Kyosho Ultima Pro builds that i will be carrying out.
Being a complete novice at everything radio controlled i figured I'd throw myself in
at the deep end and get stuck in with some much negelected, old as the hills RC cars!

If you have any advice/hints and tips for me feel free to share them as I am simply learning
and researching this car as I go along.

Heres how it looks so far, i'm aiming to upgrade this particular one with modern electronics whilst the other
build will be kept as original as possible. (I'll create another thread for that one)

Photos to follow...

This was a real PITA to get cleaned up.

The original wheels/tyres came with it too. Apparently they are quite hard to get a hold of now.

I've found WD-40 works quite well at removing remnant adhesive, like the crap on your top deck. Just spray WD-40 on it to wet all the adhesive, let it sit 5 minutes and it should wipe off without much effort.

What works even better is to put a little acetone in a small margarine or yogurt container, place the top deck on top of the container, and put the whole thing inside a plastic bag and tie it closed. Leave it sit overnight and the acetone fumes will dissolve all that adhesive residue, and even soften CA cement so it can be wiped off quite easily.

Your resto is looking pretty good already, looking forward to updates! 8)

Thanks, I managed to get 95% of the residue off with a mix of wd-40 and then some scrubbing with an acetone
soaked cloth.

I just need to figure out what motor and esc I should put into it.

Very nice! I'll be following your rebuild as well since I'm trying to do a Turbo Ultima.

What have you decided for wheels and tires?

What are you going to use for electronics?

Do you have any spare UM-1 center gear and pinion gear? I need those...

Good luck!

I think these are the Japanese versions because of thew aluminum chassis. Mine had a graphite/frp chassis (bought new in the US when it first came out). Nice cars but I prefer the US version. :D Not a big aluminum chassis person (at least not for the Pro). I guess that's why I'm trying to convert my Turbo Ultima to an Ultima Pro. I miss my graphite chassis. lol Trying to find a Pro graphite chassis is not easy.
