When Kyosho RE-REs the Ultima, I Hope...

Post by Returning_Jim »

...That they incorporate adjustable rear toe. I suppose they will, since they did it on the Optima. But with the Ultima, I figure they have two options. They can do it like they did on the Optima, with those inserts, or they can add a gizmo like the Robinson Racing rear toe adjust:

I have one of these on one of my cars and it's a pretty nifty part.

What do you guys hope will be fixed or improved on the Ultima?

I have 1 of those,, looks like it would break first hit. Not much meat on the plastic parts. I think the better option would be to use different toe plates.

$17.95 in 1988 is equivalent to $37 today, adjusting for inflation. OUCH.

I've run across several of those in my travels. I've never purchased one. I think it's cool from a vintage parts point of view but I have no idea if it will improve Ultima handling. I guess if somehow it decreases the excessive push when turning, that would be good.

I'm running one and I think it helps, but I'm also running a square tire set-up and a decent amount of toe-out in front. I got a really good deal on it on the 'bay.

The 1 I have is for optima mid, never ran it. Ive never messed with rear toe,, so whats needed to reduce rear traction, in or out?

All else being equal, toe-out in the rear would make the car more loose.

Why bother with an option like this on an Optima Mid when all it takes is a different rear arm bracket at the rear? Kyosho even made a little set...

Exactly what I was thinking. I believe they made 3 different rear arm brackets with different arm mounting angles...red, blue and silver colored, if I recall correctly. I used the blue one with my OptiMutt car.

Yeah, thats why I havent used the adjusto link thing. its easier to change toe plates. Mine came in a lot of parts, and it took me years to figure out what it was. Really a good idea because its adjustable. I just know that my ham fisted driving would have it broke in short order.

Those parts came out when the lazer had long replaced the optima mid.
They were option parts for the spider10, or tf1. Kyoshos first attempt in the touring class.

I'm just hoping a rere Ultima happens. This is the year for it to occur 30 and all. Would be unfortunate to have designed and molded all those gearbox internals and only use them for the Optima. I considered trying to stuff them into the ultima box until GomachV explained that it wouldn't be exactly easy.

Fixes if they do run one?...

Lengthen the chassis a bit for a less twitchy drive, and easier battery placement. (we don't all race and have shorty pack lipos!)

I hope they include rear bumper of the ultima pro. That really helped to keep the motorplate from bending. And i hope the sell it separate, and it fits the old tranny :)
