Optima Mid.....what to do with it?
Hey guys,
I got what I just learned is an Optima Mid carcass when I bought a bunch of RC10T stuff. No body, no rear shock tower, no shocks, no wheels, no electronics. What is left seems to be a good candidate for something.....I just dont know what! Im thinking its an 1988ish vintage set up for a stick pack. So if this were given to you....what would you make out of it?

You could go completely different and convert it to an optima mid truck.

YES....I just noticed my old add for the JG conversions showed an optima mid! Im betting I can make up the some towers and body mounts....Hmmmmm OKOKOK I need to finish my 10T stuff but then I can totally see a heavy metal truck made out of this. That sheet of G10 is just begging to be cut into though....... Any weak spots in this driveline?klavy69 wrote:an optima midmakoman1860 wrote: So if this were given to you....what would you make out of it?

As for weak points in the drive train final drive or idler gears seem to we the worn out parts when I get these but I'm kinda a kyosho noob.
Hopefully some of the kyosho guys can chime in here...scr8p?

Opt mid parts are cheap and plentiful. If it were mine, I would get it completed, and then stick it in a rubbermaid box for years. As for running, they are one of the most robust and efficient vintage buggies ever. They can be very fast, and will handle brushless power no problem. It helps to use a thorp center gear if planning to run it.
Several guys here have made some beautiful customs based on the venerable mid. All mine are mostly stock. One of my favorite set ups is a wide low rally setup using dirt oval tires from custom works. The grip is amazing, and on brushless and lipo power the speed can be insane.

re-pro body, dampers etc., are all available.
If I were you, I'd clean it up and re-build it from scratch.

The possibilities are endless, it's a great platform to do just about anything. Go nuts!
I made mine into a mid-motored RWD car...just because I'd already built a handful of 4WD Optimas and wanted something totally different.
