Might need to look into the diffs eventually. Everything seems daunting to me because its not a b2 or b3.

Playing with electrics anyways. Savox and new servo saver to replace the old vintage kopropo.

That old KO Propo FET servo might be stronger and faster than your Savox servo...probably eats batteries though.

That plastic bit is part of the slipper but within the gearbox casing you have two brass bushing hole sections and maybe still with them attached, bushings are ok but bearings do free it up a fraction. Daunting it may look but if you take it all apart for a major clean and rebuild its relatively simple, me I changed the screws in the process to a more suitable hex headed screw for most of the car as it made maintenance a lot easier as you only needed one driver.

If you open up the gearbox and remove the shaft, there should be either bushings or bearings inserted into the gearbox halves.

Already has crunchy bearings, hence the confusion.

I've ordered them plus bearings to replace the rollers and that plastic bush.

I hope someone answers these questions as I’m already a ways into my Lazer ZX rebuild, so here goes.
1) on the gearbox there is supposed to be a limiter nut with a 3mm set screw. The set screw I’m guessing is to stop the nut from coming loose, and to keep the clearance gap. I’ve lost the nut so what can I use to replace it? Is it a standard nut?
2) most ZX I see always have the belt covers removed, so is there any reason why?
3) some people have said that they removed the belt rollers but is this wise?
I’m making this build with a brushless 8.5 motor and 3s Lippo supply, so will a stock set up work with this much power and is there a set up that would help?
Thanks for anyone who replies as this will really help me out.

8.5t and 3s lipo are going to pay a heavy toll on that drive system. I'd suggest sticking with 2s to give the thing a fighting chance.
