put some kinda preservative on the aluminum...maybe like a paste wax or something.....keep it from dulling off again.

Ok! it's been awhile, but here are some progress on the Sideways.
It's not in manual building order as I have none and the last time I built one of these were in the eighties
I've got the top deck mounted along with parts of the roll cage and the electronics except for the motor.
Waiting on new shocks as the old were missing all internal parts

neat car, watching the resto, love the progress!
Any brand that actually make preservative for aluminum specifically
There is not really any such thing as an aluminum preservative. Anodizing acts like a preservative. You can also clear-coat it, and the clear-coat acts like a preservative...or you can apply a car wax, which will protect the aluminum the same way it would protect an automotive paint job.
In regards to alu. preservatives I personally use car wax. Seals the surface to eliminate finger prints and so on. Now I'm talking shelf queens here so it's not bashers choice off protection
The build is moving on. I got the nib shocks assembled and mounted along with nib roll cage and resistor heatsink.
The rims are just undergoing some minor grinding and polishing as there were some scuffs and dents on the edges.
superb job on the wheels - smart setup and awesome looking car!!!

I've been collecting parts and trying to come up with a plan or a theme or something to get this build started for a while. With Sandkil recently starting his Sideways resto, I was inspired more than ever, and with the recent acquisition of a decent...

Got my driver detailed and my bumper installed. Still need to pick out an esc and throw in a receiver. Swapped out the motor to a Le Mans 240ST for now only because it matches the color scheme so well. Makes me wish this one was full size so I could...
Does anybody here know if the Sideways chassis is raw aluminum, or anodized the same as the Turbo Ultima?

Looks like that's the original chassis: doesn't have the countersunk screws.
I've seen a new set of wheels for this car in a LHS, left them on the hook as there were no fitting tires (that and I'm trying not to buy what I can not race)
Here's another car I got in trade from Matt (matthew john). This one is going to be a challenge but it has most of the parts there. Some of the others i have in spares. I do need the cross brace at the top of the cage. I have an idea on that though....

Yeah, Ed, that's more or less the plan that is forming for this one. I do have the wheels that were on it but they just don't do it for me. Prince Steve hooked me up with the rears, (thanks!) and I'll either find some used fronts or come up with...
Does anybody still make a battery that fits in the car sideways? My mounting holes to mount the battery in line with the car arent centered or countersunk so my only option that looks decent is sideways. some of the 7.2 batteries might fit if I cut...

Did you get a nimh battery? Their cells are slightly larger than nicads.
Just won this today:
I already have most of an Ultima rolling chassis, so it looks like I'll only need to either find an original wing or make one from scrap lexan.
Can anyone recommend contemporary wheels and tires for it? Bear in mind that front...

I remember that the Sideways was the perfect platform for those older hot rod bodies.
I guess the Sideways cool wheels and tires really matched the hot rod look...
I just restored an astute recently...so let me know if you need any information...
Ok, so finally picked this up about a couple weeks ago. Haven't done anything with it yet. There were a couple screws and one nut missing. Luckily I had some laying around which is surprising considering I'm a Losi/AE guy. No plans yet but might...

So it seems I'm stuck with this thing. I've sold off a majority of my collection to fund my full size race car. Lately I've been suckered back into racing. Been having some fun. For the hell of it, I put the Sideways on the track. It actually...
