My wallet just cried out.

Well, at least that means I certainly won't be picking up a Scorpion...

There's a second Kyosho teaser up now that shows some monster truck with a nice classic body, what could that be?

Product page: http://rc.kyosho.com/en/30618.html/

The rear wing design has been changed so it mounts to the chassis now.
It's also 2,000 yen (about 20 bucks) more expensive than the Optima reissue.

My guess is that before we move on to the Optima Mid or the Lazer we'll get another Optima-based car and possibly the Ultima.

I read that this is confirmed overseas but not yet here in NA. I was pretty amazed - lots of aluminum parts, including what looks like aluminum wheels and 4wd too? Wow, these things must have been crazy bitd but I'm guessing they would have chewed through batteries like it was going out of style.

Now that they are re-released, how well would these hold up to brushless and lipo power?

I've never owned a Kyosho product before but this one could change all that.

Those wheels are made of plastic with plating on the surface.

A re-re Optima/ re-re Javelin is able to handle 2S lipo as well as mild brushless motor.
Kyosho LE MANS 240S(15.5T) is designed for 4WD class vintage cars such as re-re Optima.

The originals will not hold up to brushless power. The weak link in my opinion is the chain drive. The belt conversion is a better option, but there is a reason that most modern 4wd rc's are shaft drive. The wheels were not aluminum. They are silver painted plastic. You take an Optima, paint the wheels silver and replace the body with the orange rollcage and you have a Javelin. I think it's awesome that they're making them again even though it will take away from the value and rarity of the originals. I just hope the rere will have the original type spike tires. They look badass and are getting hard to find. It would be nice to see those in stock at a low price. My Javelin needs some new shoes.

The original Turbo Optima/Salute will hold up to brushless power, down to about 10T or 11T. Back then, the Le Mans 240SB motor, which was the hop-up motor for those cars, put out 30,000 rpm. That roughly equates to a 3600 kV brushless motor, at least with regards to rpm, on a fully charged 2S LiPo (8.4 volts). With brushless motors, though, you hit that peak much faster, the acceleration is much stronger. To counter-balance this, you dial down the "punch" setting in your modern ESC to compensate, because the limiter gear upgrades for the Turbo Optima/Salute were not a true slipper gear, they were just to protect the gears when landing jumps.

I'm running a Leopard Toro 12T combo in my OptiMutt Optima Mid RWD conversion, and 11T Tacon motor in my Barney Turbo Optima with belt drive and hard final pinion. Both run great, but I had to dial the "punch" setting down to about 3 out of 10.
Completed projects: CYANide Onroad Optima | Zebra Gold Optima | Barney Optima | OptiMutt RWD Mid
