As good as that body looks, I think it deserves a set of Box art off road tires.

found a Yokomo on-road buggy in my store room last week.........originally this car was a YZ-870c........in the old days (~20 years ago)........school children like me did not have much money which could be spent to buy new cars.......so.........just upgraded it bit by bit........almost became a 91 works eventually...........

I also changed the Thundershot universals.........in order to use the Tamiya/ Kyosho rims..........

simple........practical.........& beautiful..........this is the true spirit of vintage Yokomo........

yes........in the old days........ there was some rumour ........saying that Yokomo took the experience of foam tyre on-road buggies in Hong Kong.........which triggered the release of YR4........& the development of on-road touring cars afterwards..........

as you can see........YR4 is actually the narrowed short wheel based version of 91 works.........

In Europe the first "Touring cars" we raced were Yokomos, Schumachers, Kyoshos and other 4wd Buggies, with on road tires and wide touring car bodies.

I remember seeing these cars first in the UK magazines. 'saloon racers' I think they were called.
Another typical UK branch is 'bangers' (nothing to do with the bangers they serve at breakfast). Surprising the US market never picked up on that.

Touring cars were not popular in the US, this is all pre 92-93. Touring cars were going strong in Europe with the DTM and BTCC. Although our cars, had rubber based special tires, and not any foam based as we raced on tarmac and not Carpet.

we used foam, best for tarmac... early to mid 80s

remember cutting up rear 1/8th donuts to mount onto 2" wheels (eg Hotshot).
AJ's, Delta, Serpent & SG were the usual foam suppliers in my area & era.

And they came in any colour as long as its black... or Red, White & Blue!
(which were bad 'cos i had to scrub them with soap everytime to stop them going grey)

Although had some Japs supply some "ISHIHARA" foams that cost 3x as much
but somehow lasts 5x as long... wow those were the bee's knees
especially for 1/8th enduro racing & 1hr finals.

I don't know if its the "Hong Kong" look but I posted these in BST just last week and had no interest (probably the sticker price). I'm not posting this to sell these but merely to illustrate a point that they are around and sometimes closer than you think.

Which 2-speed is that? The Kyosho Spider TF-1 version?

Looks like the PB Mini Mustang 2 speed to me.

We tried them on just about everything - before they were banned!!

They would have been great on road - however 2 speeds in off road electric are pretty hard to drive - as you have no brakes...
