Building the Ultimate Fibre-Lyte SRT & TCP. DONE! 3-30-2013

I have always been a huge fan of the Traxxas TCP/SRT. These vehicles were Traxxas’s last attempt at 1/10th scale competitive buggy and truck kits, before they started to focus on RTR vehicles. I decided it was time to give both of my vehicles the long awaited makeover/restoration they have been waiting for. I am going to use as many original SRT/TCP parts as I can, with the exception of the Lunsford turnbuckles, Fibre-Lyte parts and MIP cvds.

Complete list of new SRT parts used:

The Fibre-Lyte parts are of the highest quality. You may notice I requested four holes to not be drilled in the upper and lower chassis. These four holes enable the front battery box to be moved forward to accept a seven cell battery configuration. Since this SRT will be a shelf queen, I figured the unnecessary holes would make the chassis look less appealing.

Almost all of the parts pictured below are from the original SRT parts list . Also note the black powder-coated motor plate and motor guard.

This is an original part #1987 gear cover I had shipped from Australia :)

I love how the black screws blend in with the carbon-fiber :P 8)

The holes on the bottom of the chassis were countersunk perfectly! The black screws sit flush with the chassis and blend in nicely with the carbon fiber

Looks beautiful man. I see you bought that gear cover nice. Also having 3 SRT I was wondering if any hard to find parts off the SRT will work on the TCP...love to have one and seeing has i can get a carbon fiber chassis it shouldn't be hard now.

Thanks for the comment :) I have been collecting these parts for a few months and finally decided it was time to post some pictures. 8) The only thing I am missing, as you already know is the original battery hold down strap, which I will find someday

I think if you really wanted to you could find almost every part for the TCP. The hardest parts to find would be the rear motor guard, battery box and perhaps the front and rear shock towers. Your best bet would probably just want until one popped up on Ebay.

So Fiber-lyte still in business? Sweet. How much for all the Fiber-Lyte pieces and shipping and I notice on the website they have 2 different materials. Honestly I'm not understanding the major difference between the 2. I want to race my SRT so I'm looking for the lighter and stiffer chassis that's also durable. Also is there anyone that can make the battery box in aluminum? I see it can be does and lighten for reduce weight and stiffening the chassis even more.

This is gonna be sweet!

I see both of the older big bore front bodies and one rear for the SRT. If you need another matching rear body, I have one NIP.

Actually, I have an original white battery strap on my TCP. It's basically a solid runner, but no show car. I'll have to think about that one.

Hey Harry,

I was able to find four new original big bore shocks. The rear xx-long ones are complete and already assembled, and the front long shocks are just the cylinders. I will basically have to build the front shocks up from scratch.

I did not want to use the new big bore shocks for the slash because they are a darker almost black color. As you probably already know Traxxas changed the color of their big bore shocks.

Anyways, I should not need an additional "matching rear body" because I already have both rear big bore shocks. Thanks for the offer though :D

Harry you said you have a original SRT rear shock cylinder? Does it include the shock cap too? I'm only missing 1 for the rear. Also do you still have the Traxxas TRA2521 Upper chassis for the SRT?

I was able to take some close up pictures of some of the parts today :)

These are the original 4740 tires and wheels that came with my TCP kit.

There is a defect in the upper chassis :'(. Looks like they cut alittle to much on one side.

I will contact them and see what I can work out. It would be a shame for future Fibre-Lyte buyers to also have a defect in thier SRT chassis.

I see where they are coming from but at the same time this is a shelf queen. You do not need that cut. Now if they do give you a new one for free I'll buy the one with the cut in it off you. Just need a upper chassis and my lipo has the wire on the side. BTW my SRT bodies are on their way.

Any updates on the TCP?
