Vintage Traxxas RUNNERS only

Post by BMKTW2 »

This topic is for the vintage traxxas guys who actually run their cars...
I have 3 Vintage runners: an SRT, TCP, and Hawk2. For now, I will just post my SRT:

And the video of it running and jumping:

What are the rest of you running with?

Those upgrades suck lol. And has for the rear shock mount. I have is as short as possible. And for the slipper. I do not like the VXL setup and would recommend the STRC setup to run the associated spurs.

STRC slipper is better than the VXL but more expensive. I've used the VXL clutch for a long time, its not perfect but does handle power.
I think my next clutch I'll try the STRC one, it looks sweet and the gear selection is nice.
Thanks emaxx

If and only if you needed a complete assembly of both. The STRC is only $10-11 more for a way better setup. Super round gears, no more wobbling and consistence slipper clutch engagement. You can even use kyosho and losi kelvar spurs on the STRc setup. Plus the STRC setup lets use run the 1987 dust cover and not the Rustler dust cover.

I've used quite a few vxl clutch assy's and yes...you have to deal with the out of round spurs but I've also beat the snot outta them with little to no failure on my slash and others. Of course this was before the STRC clutch. One of these days I'll go that route...and get some pics of my runners to post in here

I hate those out of round spur gears! Man they suck!
The STRC slipper sounds too good to be true.

It's just a design that works, Associated even sells different types of pads and vented slipper plates. I have ran Associated T4 since their release and it's just a solid slipper setup. Plus you can use associated 32pitch gears without any mods and you can use the gear cover lol.

If you're gonna run the AE slipper, do yourself a favor and get the V2 setup. It's basically just a heavier spring and hardware, but it makes a big difference. The pic above is the V1 like on the original T4 and B4. Works fine for a while, but will eventually let you down. For me it was at the a-main of the 2010 Eastern States Challenge. Had second place locked down until the slipper started failing on me and I couldn't clear the triple anymore. Still managed to hang on to third place, but it was just a bad feeling knowing that I ran a great race and a little spring is all that held me back.

Nice work modding the car, but this topic is more about showcasing your build than about vintage Traxxas runners only, I'd say. ;) I'd probably just rename the topic "Vintage Traxxas SRT Project". :)

I agree. It did not intend to be the only one posting, its been just about my car because no one else has posted their runner. I guess everyone that have a vintage traxxas does not use them.

There is the nicest hawk2 on ebay right now and a $110 bid will win it.
I wish I could have it but not allowed
