TRX-1 "Shelfer"

Post by TRX-1-3 »

Yeah So,

I am fortunate to have collected enough parts and lots here and there for about a year and came across enough stuff to do a ground up resto with a few hop-ups. I thought shelfers were kinda bogus until all this stuff lined up. Bummer that one of the white rear wheels was cracked which prevents me from having a set of white 5 spoke original wheels. Diff is silky smooth with Traxxas dogbones, A&L bellcranks and battery brace, with an A&L Interceptor body

So the shocks, motor plate, and black 5 spokes (there is a white front I need to dye) are from my original TRX-1. Everything else is new except for the front arms, knuckles, and spindles. It would be sweet to have the rest of the white bits but I'll see what I can find here and there to replace the black parts. Never thought I'd have a shelf queen!

Sorry no "build thread" but I just haven't mastered that. It just seems like a hassle.

Looks pretty sweet, makes me want to try and find the parts to build one. Wish I would have kept my Eagle and Hawk I had back in the day. To think I gave them away just to stick with my Associated cars at the time.

Mark,

Could you provide some information on those outdrive cups? What's the diameter of the shaft hole on the inside and the total length, and the outer end's diameter? A part number would also be great (assuming it's a stock part). Thanks!

trx1/3 diff shafts are 5mm. I think you will be very hard pressed to find just those outdrives. they were part of the package for those hybrid universal bones. I also want to say they bone end is larger than the typical kyosho/associated, more like Losi before the 22.

Sounds good, thanks! Any chance of an outer diameter spec on those cups?

they are REALLY hard to come by... they were one of the reasons I gave up on a TRX3 restoration project and sold it instead. The conical shape is REALLY cool :)

Good luck...

There's one on eBay right now, but from an American seller who won't ship to Canada...besides, it's a bit pricey for just a single, and I would need a pair...and I don't need them that bad. So, if anyone needs one, check out item # 291130776408.

it's pricey because they're hard to come by

(where was it when I needed it a couple of yrs ago btw  )

EDIT: $6? That's dirt cheap btw... where's the second one?!?

Looks great. I also like the clear body with a few key decal idea for display. I am stealing that idea. Thanks.

Re: TRX-1 "Shelfer" Update

Post by TRX-1-3 »

So I tracked down some NIP white nylon to replace some black parts. Also decided to put the PowerClutch I received from Daryl (thanks Rod and Daryl and everyone else) and spent pretty much yesterday, all day, changing stuff out and mixing it up. Then I was like, now this is happening, and I kept going. Installed some electronics. Also have a slightly used Novak T-4 and a pretty neat motor on the way to finish it off.

The only black nylon parts left to replace are the bumper, front arm mounts, and shock ends.

Anything anyone thinks about the direction for the shell as far as paint......I'm all eyes/ears. This is quite possibly the last A&L Intercepter body purchased from A&L. It's either staying clear, or somebody else is painting it. Unless I went with a cut and dry old school rattle can. By that, I mean a classic two-tone with the A-Team / Starsky & Hutch stripe thing going on there somewhere.

So, yeah, there is an A&L thing going on here as well.

Like the car - Blue, white, yellow :) Easy to do a pragmatic, good-looking rattle can job with these three!

That´s a very nice body - well executed.

Must admit that I´m not a big fan of the original TRX-1 body.
