C.P.E. TERMINATOR CLOD

i wanted to share my clod with you guys who aren't on clodtalk.

i always wanted a clod as a kid, never ended up with one because i was heavy into racing.
so this past june my wife got me a super clod for my birthday. i built it on my bday and was content...for a while.
i searched and researched and shopped around. there was just so much stuff available for it, it was a bit overwheming.
when the snow season was approaching i knew i had to make a decision.
i finally made up my mind, with the help of some cool folks over @ clod talk and i ended up with an alloy terminator from crawford performance.
brett, the owner of crawford, was really helpfull and made my purchase easy.

parts list (so far):

cpe alloy terminator chassis kit
cpe rear steer lockouts
cpe inner axel stiffeners
cpe bta (behind the axel) steering kit
hitec 645mg steering servo
racer edge servo saver
80mm yeah racing shocks (actually pretty nice for cheap chinese shocks) these were on my monster beetle, i have a set of 100mm on order
cpe 2" wheel wideners
stock clod wheels drilled for the 5 lug wideners
stock clod tires (for now)
the body is temporary, it came on a used blackfoot i had, it fit and it's lighter then the hardbody.
tamiya teu-103bk dual motor esc, soon to be replaced by dual 8.5t 60AMP ezruns.

the build went really smooth. no grinding/fitting needed. i do wish that there were some sort of instructions but i made due and didn't screw it up.
it's now 3" longer and 2" wider then stock. it's very stable, there's no way to flip it with the silver cans. lol

i put the esc and rec in a bag so i could run it in the snow the other night. i'm going to try to adapt a 1/8 radio box for it.
we got a couple of inches the other night and no my nieghborhood is covered in clod tracks.

you should! everyone should have atleast one clod, modded or stock.

i put a pair of black can sport tuneds in it the other day, woke it up a bit.
as soon as the holidays are over i'm going dual brushless with it.

i've been beating the hell out of it and you'd never know, it's a tank.

i just ordered one of the bl systems, a 60amp 8.5t ezrun. i'll order the 2nd when $$ allows.

new body on, new bl systems installed.

this thing is quick, really quick. still on stock gearing so top end isn't much but acceleration is insane.

it's an absolute balst to drive. balls out fast!
only a couple of more things needed but i think i'm good to go for the race on the 22nd.
i have motor mounts and pinions on order, the 13 tooth's are a bit low and it's top end isn't that impressive.
but if the track layout is similar to monster jam then the 13's may be just right.

i forgot about this thread, so instead of hijacking melvinsarmy's thread i'll use my own. (novel idea huh? )

this truck hasn't seen much action since i made this thread, i did race it in a few of the RCTMCNY events. it was fun but they run "monster jam" style races and the races are very short. so it's a long day with very little actual racing. when scott brought his powers clod to this past years vonats i actually had mine there...trying to sell it, but after seeing his race i decided to keep it and run it in this years vonats.

i'm actually taking it "carpet racing" tonight, but as a joke. i've kind of got a target on my back in our mini 4wd open class since i have dominated it, lots of guys saying they are gonna take me out and such (all in fun), so the clod is coming as "muscle".

depending on what's decided on with the vonats i have a pair of sport tuneds and a teu-103bk esc if we have to run brushed.
with the 16t pinions it won't wheelie with the 4000kv motors, the 13t pinions were a little crazy down low.

but i think it should just be and open "clod class".

I counted the teeth on the pinions on my Clod when I took apart the axles to convert to CVDs, now I can't remember the pinion size. D'oh! I believe they are 21s! Huge pinions. Both gear boxes have their openings and some stuff on the inside cut out so the pinions can fit inside.

I think an open Clod class is a great idea. Well, maybe put a limit on motors so we don't have a 50mph Clod out there running around.

lol 21's? wow, yeah the gearbox would need some opening up in order to fit those. top end must be crazy.

bump for a blast form the past.

i finally raced this thing on a track (vonats), what a challenge.
the front end didn't make it, snapped a front axle tube.
the crawford wheel wideners weren't great. i'll need a new setup there, too much wobble. it was hard to drive straight.
the surface wasn't good for the big girl either. i don't think they make suburbs in that size.

i might try a pairt of the alloy axle tubes on the fornt axle, not sure yet.
the event did renew my appreciation for the truck though, it was a blast and quite entertaining.

for the short term i may just replace the parts with stock parts and toss the brushed system back in for winter fun.

I've never had much luck with any kind of Clod wideners. They seem to always break eventually. I don't run them. I've got TTR CVDs in my Powers truck, those widen the truck just enough and are so far indestructible. I don't know that wideners make that much difference in handling anyway.

have you used any of the alloy axle tubes?
integy makes a few options, as does hot racing. both of those names don't resonate with quality if you knwo what i mean.
hot racing may be a bit better then integy.
