tamiya M chassis question

Post by gumbajv »

I'm looking for either a M-02 or M-04 (both rear wheel drive) 210mm wheel base chassis. The M-05 chassis had the option of S, M, L wheelbase, does the M-02 & M-04 have the same options, or is there a different part number for the different chassis lengths.
thanks.

The M05 doessn't come in 210mm wheelbase, although www.rc-mini.net built one by modifying the wishbones to shorten the wheelbase. The M02 and M06 are both available in 210mm wheelbase. The M06 wheelbase can be changed by swapping parts included in the kit, but if you have an M02M or L tyo shorten the wheelbase means buying the M02S chassis and front section.

Unfortunately the -06 chassis won't work due to the motor hanging off the back. The chassis is for an existing Team Bluegroove VW bus body. The -05 chassis came with the 3 option wheel base layout. I built mine to the 210mm wheel base. Other than the M series chassis and the HPI cup racer chassis I don't see anything else available in the 210mm wheel base.

Also realize that the only difference between a M-01 and a M-02 is where the steering is installed on the car. So you can buy a M-01 and turn it into a M-02 pretty easily.

The various wheelbases on the M-01 and M-02 chassis are achieved by swapping out the non-motor bulkhead - there's a short one, medium one, and long one. Another interesting thing is that the M-01/02L bulkhead is exactly the size of the gearcase bulkhead, so you can build a dual-motor car if you want.

There's a few alternatives, all 4WD but simple to convert to RWD
Xpress MRR2
Atomic VM2
ABC Hobby Genetic

I've got a genetic under my drift bug. It's a pretty cool chassis for the price. I can take pics of it if you want to consider converting it to 2wd

J-sou
I'd appreciate it.
I realize the M chassis & hpi chassis's are going to be too wide. The bus inside width is 6". I picked up some 1.6 wide slicks which I'll mount on widened hpi fuchs wheels. So the hub to hub width needs to be about 4.5" . If I can't find something I'll make a simple chassis and use 3racing / yeah racing suspension parts. Finding a chassis I can modify would be a lot easier.

There is also the Xray t1m. That measures in at 208mm but has the adjustability to make it 210

i raced a genetic for a couple of years, it's a really nice car, just needs a couple of option parts.

i was going to try the atomic but the carpet track i raced at closed up.

the ofna jle12 (or something like that) is also 210mm and 4wd.
