Kit #58002 Martini Porsche 935 Turbo

Happy to add this to my collection. Original owner started assembling in '77, gave up and put the lid back on the box, been sitting ever since. Pics are from the seller, he wished me luck in building it, said it was very frustrating!

By the looks of it, it will be fun, not sure if I will build it or not.
Have so many projects now I don't think I will ever finish them all, it's an addiction, no cure.
It is amazing how detailed Tamiya made these cars, they may not have been the fastest or the best for racing, but the sure were the most detailed.

Awesome addition and I too am lucky enough to own one. I posted a resto-build thread over at TC, but I got the car for free (in shambles actually) and restored it with the help of a couple of generous persons' parts.

slight difference... T's super scale 1/12th model is of 935/76 square tail

Musuem's car is the Baby 935/77 with different aluminium body & cutdown engine for 2litre class.

One thing that should be mentioned is the decals. I had a TON of problems with my vintage set due to their age. I also build scale models so decaling to me is pretty darned easy. Even with MicroSol and the likes, several of mine were destroyed and completely disintegrated. I also had this issue building a Tamiya 1/20 MP4/8 Senna. The model's 20 year old decals did not hold up. The only original decals on my car is the window decal and driver's helmet. Some of the restorations I have seen have utilized the 1/12th static kit's decals when they re-released the model 6-7 years ago as they hold up better.

I ended up using the re-re vinyl decals to finish mine. Yeah, it's not original, but it's close enough for me and they turned out nice.

That is the type of kit that put the word 'model' in R/C model cars. I wouldn't mind putting in the time to build one.

It's those decals that make me cringe when I think about building up another 935. I think I will go Nwarty's route and use the decals from the tamtech 935

Many people never finished these kits because not only would they take 100s of hours to complete but if you raced them the body would last one race. So they would buy the chassis and install a lexan body and go racing.

If it takes you hunderds of hours to complete a 1/12th scale plastic model car body you are doing something wrong...

For the decals, I tend to test old decals first by taking a minor decal and seeing what happens when you immerse it in water. If they desintegrate, clearcoating them while they are still on the sheet always helps...some people use glue in a spraycan, too.
