M05 rear wheel drive & mods

Post by gumbajv »

This is a 2 part project. 1. Convert the M05 chassis to rear wheel drive using stock & aftermarket parts. 2. Narrow the rear end for more fat wheel & tire choices. Also using stock & aftermarket parts. Using the newer chassis with the servo in the center makes it pretty straight forward with no major mods. Narrowing the rear was a bit more involved, but no special parts were needed. Both parts done with basic tools. The 2 rear end shots are one with the stock tires and the other one with some fat vintage Duratrax tires. The Duratrax tires do fit inside the Mini body, though not sure you'd want something that fat. The body in the photo is a Protoform sedan 225mm w/b. The rear end width is about the same as a Miini.

I like the look of the fat tires in the rear. It looks like it would be ready for the drag strip. 8)

The body is painted, but still a roller.

That body is pretty sweet looking on there. I do like the smaller wheels better then the disk wheels up front though.

Inboard cantilever front shocks for more tire clearance. The rod ends were drilled and the spring sits inside. I don't have a drive train installed yet so I mounted a dr mad thrust 40mm fanjet to the back for fun.
