I wouldn't normally plug, but I thought you guys might be interested (and may not have spotted this yet)...

After my brief rant about F1, you will see some vintage images of Ayrton messing about with Tamiyas back in 1986, that have never been published (anywhere) before.
Enjoy,

H.

Nice! I remember seeing on TV Petter Solberg racing his car around the rally pits http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petter_Solberg

Thanks for posting, pretty cool.
Did not know Ayrton was into cars, only remember he liked to fly RC planes.

Thanks as well for posting. Senna was one cool down to earth guy, even though he grew up wealthy. He left us too soon!

Did not know Senna flew RC, I know Montoya likes to fly!

Cheers guys :)
fakiee - Nice to hear. Actually Petter got a mention in this earlier article as well.
slotcarrod - thanks for that clip. I'll mention it on the above link as an extra (even though it's not about cars)

H,
I'm pretty sure the guy with Ayrton is Colin Spinner of UK Tamiya importers RiKo.
He organized lots of the racing and displays back then.

Here's a clip you might also like.

Thanks for posting, I suspect a few of the f1 guys enjoy RC.

There was a programme here in the UK called Blue Peter, and they had a clip of a very young Lewis Hamilton enjoying racing RC cars as well.

thanks for sharing :)

There's also a few famous pics of Senna's malboro-colored 8th scale buggy (Burns, iirc) on the internet :)

edit: here http://kyoshosan.blogspot.ch/2013/10/the-boss-ayrton-senna-and-his-kyosho.html

HAmilton still races occasionnally, last time I think was 4hr 8th OR IC endurance race in my area a couple of years ago- he teamed up with another scale-1 top-dog racer (forgot who) and they ended up 4th out of 20 teams :)

Blue Peter clip appears in the previous article (also linked above), and posted in 2013 ;)

Petter also appears in that previous article.

I get that NASCAR isn't a popular form of racing outside the U.S. but Leonard Wood is another name you can add to the 1:1 race car drivers that was into RC.

Here's the thread on the LW designed car Bob Stormer owns: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=30373

And here's a vid of Leonard Wood's RC cars at the Wood Brothers Racing Museum.

Mentioning NASCAR, Tony Stewart is such a big r/c fan he owns Customworks

Lewis Hamilton still takes part in r/c races when he can. These are from an old regional meeting,

I used to race against Gordon Shedden.
Back when BOSSCAT was the buggy to have
Before he went on to become well known for his BTCC antics
