I wonder how people on this forum feel about the lack of official Ford branding and the altered grill (from the original). Some folks over at Tamiyaclub are quite distressed over these changes. I can see both sides but am fairly neutral myself.

Being a re-release, I don't think anyone should give a crap. The change will actually HELP collectors maintain their exclusivity. Plus, people shouldn't be buying this as an investment, they should play with it.

When I built the beetle I couldn't help but notice the friction shock parts on the trees. Figured there must be a foot coming. Now it has oil shocks

The branding as mentioned above will just make the real ones worth more and let you bash the new one without caring. It's a win-win

Wow. Cool. Maybe they beefed up the rear outboard arm mounting scenario. That was really my only trouble spot with the original, chassis stress and whatnot in that area. And looking for hex dogbones in the dirt.

Interesting.
Hope you're doin' something fun.

If it's like the Monster Beetle re-re, the only change they did to the rear end was the addition of universal swing shafts in place of the hex halfshafts. As stated, it also gains black oil filled shocks. The lower portion of the Monster Beetle's rear bumper appears to be installed. The big deal for the diehards seems to be the lack of Ford branding, the altered front grill and, as usual, the lack of "real" sponsor decals.

A lot of people on tamiyaclub are bellyaching about this re release. I think some lose sight about how cool it is that we can buy the same kit (more or less) as we did 30 years ago. I'll probably get one as this was my first RC back in the day.

Re-res are fun and should be done up however you want. The issue starts when people who know no better, OR the people who do know better and go out of their way to scam others out of their 'vintage' status cash. Seen it in slot cars and it drove the prices down for the originals but they slowly recovered.

I'm not much into Tamiya but I've always had a want for a nice Blackfoot so this one might head my way this time around 8)

I think it still channels the original and I like that it is getting a release.

Would I like a body with the ford branding? Sure, but I'd also like the original to be sitting on my shelf.

I've been considering the Monster Beetle re-re since I have the original still in a box. The re-re will let me have some fun and still drive a Monster Beetle. And now, I might have to get both just because.
