Avante 2001 resto... yeah, another one!

Post by Turkbot »

Looks like everyone and their dog has had a bite of this cherry.... Anyhow, figured I would throw mine up :)

Background:

In the early 00's I found a beat up 2001 at a yard sale for next to nothing. I bought it and rushed home to play with it... well. It just didn't run... missing a rear drive shaft and a front shock boot was threaded. So in to the parents garage it went...

A few months ago I asked my mum to box up any of my old car stuff in the garage and send to me, sure enough a couple of weeks later I had a decimated 2001 on my hands!.

The picture below is how it looked prior to being boxed and shipped. So, the list of good and bad..

BAD:
2 white wheels only
missing rear left rear dog bone
missing rear left diff cup
front right shock has stripped spring cup
both front knuckles are busted
right rear knuckle broken
a few "odd" screws in place... mainly on knuckles
motor plate missing
front diff is not smooth.. I recall it had a broken planetary gear...
I have no idea what that zip tie is for...

GOOD:
2 white wheels....
Original undercowl
both front and rear AR bars are there
original servo mounts!
generally in original condition! As in the chassis is in good shape.

WHAT IS THE BUILD STATUS?
I am in the early stages. So far just ordered a lot of stuff up:
front diff gears
RC screwz SS screws for egress
silver hi-caps all round!!!
new front and rear knuckles (plastic, but will get Yeah racing alloy next time)
rear dog bone
rear diff cups
TBG body and wing set
re-re tires
re-re orange wheels
re-re cam lock wheel hubs
some other screws, you know, the half thread ones
3mm washers
pinion set

Stuff to still order:
850 bearings
rear wing mount
egress light weight wheels
Paint - not sure what color to go with
stickers
all the needed electrics!!! thinking go going for hobby wing stock set up...

And now, that horrible picture...

I like Avid for their $1 bearings, but if you only need a few and dont want to pay shipping, Tammies has bulk bearings for $1 a pop too- out in Beaverton. If you havent been there, its worth the trip

That looks sweet!

I think I am going to stay pretty free and lose with this as it is going to be a runner.

Egress Hi-cap dampers that will go on..
Stainless steel screw kit for an Egress that will make all those screws look nice and shiny again!
The wheels will definitely be the orange cam-locks and original tires are going to cover them, seem pretty easy to get.
As for the body... have the original under tray and a new body/wing.... I am in to bright colors right now so it will not be box art! Besides, that is a lot of decals and I hate doing that!

Just got a deal on a XR10 esc and a 17.5 brushless motor, so that will all go together nicely!

I'll grab some pics later once I have put the hi-caps on and changed most of the screws out!

So a bunch of parts have arrived for the resto, a few are still on order. I hope to get some significant work done next weekend..

As you can see, I have some re-re parts and some original... This will be a runner after all :)
