No kidding. I'm not an advocate of violence when dealing with kids, but if my son acted like that 6-year old, I (or my wife-she doesn't tolerate that either) would have warmed his ass good. AND he would have replaced whatever he broke - obviously he likely doesn't have the money to do so himself, but WE would have replaced it, and he would get that amount subtracted from his gifts on his next birthday/Christmas/whatever.
That kind of disrespect is inexcusable anytime, but especially to family.
Sorry, done preaching.
You have far more patience than I, my friend.

And the Lego issues...I just don't get that.
As much as my son (he's 8 now) has always loved to RC with me, he's even more nuts about us building Legos.
Legos were by far my favorite thing when I was young. I've still got a lot of the ones I had back then, and ever since my son was born, I've been picking up more whenever I see them at a good price...yard sales, goodwill, auctions, etc...we have TONS of them, and he'd be happy to build stuff every single day...
How can a good, warm-blooded American boy not like Legos? Wow.

But, I will say KUDOS!
For trying to get a younger generation interested in real RC, even at the risk of some of your gear.

So true. Plus you have to watch how much you press the issue with the parents, or they get all ticked off that you're butting into their business, or that you're telling them that they are lousy parents, whatever.
Again, kudos for trying to help him.
I had a cousin when I was young that was a horrible little brat. My parents talking to his made no difference, and eventually they were just never welcome in our home anymore because we never knew what item(s) in the house were going to get broken. Bad deal for everyone.

Funny - when I broke out the RC car on my street with my son a number of years ago (they were around 7), they all took to it quickly and respected the car immensely.

It IS about the parenting 100%

I only share my RCs with MY kids now days. Ive learnt a similar lesson, but not as funny or as damaging as your story. One time I had just gotten my mr4 buggy running, really fast with a brushless setup. So I goto my friends house where he is hosting his girlfriend and her kid. Kid is showing me his dirtbike. Im showing him my rc. He asks to play with it. I politely decline, explaining that its very fast, fragile, old, rare, hard to fix and replace. My friend pipes in and sais its not fair, I shouldnt tease him with it! No worries, its his house. I put it away. Ive never shared my RCs with him again.

Funny thing, 2 weeks later he kicks the girl friend out, because her kids are too messy, irresponsible, unapreciative....... Sooo, I guess I shouldda brought a slow boring car, no sense in sharing the good stuff. MY BAD.

The kid wasnt even bothered by it. He was cool just checking it out,, im sure he wanted to run it, but never threw a fit or seemed dissappointed. Good polite kid to me.

I only share my RCs with MY Kids. I trust my kids with any of them.
