Is this a Tamiya shock?

Post by V12 »

Got a 1984 custom built car which uses a mono-shock front end. I´m not sure what make this shock is but I was told this should be from a Frog where the shock body was machined for accepting collars.
Someone could confirm this or knows something different?

No, it is not a Frog shock. On Frog the spring is only around shock shaft and not around shock body. Also Frog shock body has "cooling ribs".

Edit: well I am not sure after all. Can You open it?

It does look like a frog shock that has been modified

Thanks. Yes it´s not an original shock, the shock body was machined for removing the ribs so a longer spring could be used. But I was not sure if the original shock was borrowed from a Frog or different car.

if it was modified for sure, then it was a frog rear shock. that looks like a yokomo 834b front end.

Yes it´s a Yokomo 834b but it´s not a Yokomo shock. This shock is longer than the original shock. The previous owner knew it was a Tamyia shock which was machined but he was not sure if it was a Frog shock.

It looks like a wildone rear shock with a collar fitted over it.
