Butterfly Chassis template for SRB

Post by yellowcat »

I was looking for a stock length Butterfly chassis for my new project for a Ford F150 Ranger XLT. There are couple of them on evilbay, prices were ranging from $125 to $200. Outrageous prices too. So I decided to make one myself. I have an original long chassis on my Rough Rider. I took it apart and did a direct scan. From the direct scan and the precise measurement from the disassembly chassis, I did a template artwork. Both the long and stock chassis are on the same artwork as well as the mounting holes for the stock and wide front end. I also corrected the Tamiya radio box slot on the original Butterfly chassis.

Here are the Dropbox links to the direct scan and my template artwork. When you open the link, if the create an account appears, you don't have to create an account. Just X it out and click download again. Both are one to one scale and save in pdf file. Please select actual size when printing. The print will be exactly one to one scale. There is a ruler on the artwork for checking the accuracy of your printer. The exact measurement on the width of the chassis is 76mm or 2.99213 inch. When you place a ruler over the artwork ruler, it should match exactly and precisely.

I did a short chassis in 1/8 or 0.125 inch G10 FR4 black fiberglass plate with just some basics hand tools no CNC.

Here are some links for ordering fiberglass plate in Canada and the US:

1/8 or 0.125 inch is the standard thickness for Butterfly chassis. I order two 12 x 12 inches from eplastics. One black and one natural. Each plate is enough for making 2 chassis It seems eplastics has the best price. Make sure you ask for a shipping quote before you place your order.

Here is what it looks like on my custom Ford F150 Ranger XLT.
