- AYK Boxer -

Post by Asso_man! »

I've just won the following ancestor. Was is it called differently in Europe than in the USA/Japan? From the pics, body has Boxer decals and so does indicate the manual :?:

Cheers guys :!:

Three cars were released with exactly the same chassis.

Buffalo and Bobcat were essentially exactly the same with the exception of the body.

The Boxer was the last in the line - with a different body, Front and rear wheels and tyres. (the rear wheels and tyres were in fact from the 4wd Viper). The last of the Boxer kits also contained a ball differential - in the kit. Very very hard to find.

The chassis are really very nice and every bit as pretty as a Scorpion etc.

One of my Fav's for sure.

Cheers

yihaa, after SK7's Coyote, another one without crazy big shocks over the roof!
(though I admit the scorpions dual-shocks probably worked way better.)

Make us proud asso!

THanks Asso,

I had the great pleasure of meeting the importer here in Australia back in the day who knew the then founder and owner of Agoyi metals (AYK) on a personal and business level. There is a sad story to tell about the demise of AYK - however it would take pages of space here. I love the product - always have. I used to race their 1/12th scale cars in the late seventies - even have some still....The company was founded by racers for racers..much like Kyosho's R/C devision. I still chat with the old importer on occasion and he always has something to tell me or that he remembers about racing back in the day.....

Makes me want to go and get my new built 1/12 team car from back in the day and run it again!

NOW - about YOUR car: Polish her up - or better still - run her a few times to get a feel for just how good they were compared to a Tamiya SRB - you will see why AYK and Kyosho ruled the tracks until Associated came along. Then polish her up (love alloy - so easy to make look new or better than new again) - and stick her on the display shelf.

Damn - this was going to be a quick post !! See what happens when you get me going on the more "obscure" brands?

Cheers

Dito, I'd love to hear anything about the old companies history / old days racing, you should really open a thread for it!

It arrived today, that thing is in pristine condition for its age. A few normal scrathes on the bottom, but those will be wiped away with a light sandpaper and I will then polish every aluminium part. The diff is super smooth and for a car on bushing I must say the play is really limited to a minimum. I am amazed with the shocks too, still full of oil and working pretty smooth. Even the body is acceptable and with minor cracks at the rear and a box art scheme. Original tires do still have plenty of thread and rims are scratchless... The overall quality is really awesome. No ball diff unfortunately :x

Enough bla-bla for now, let the pictures talk :)

Can I ask how much you paid for it?
I'm still thinking of buyin a tomahawk but have noclue wheither it is overpriced.
This would be a good reference.

(I know the AYK is rarer, but the Tomahawk is in even better condition)

VERY nice score - that will come up almost perfect with some elbow grease and a rag!

Very complete car too - seems only to be missing the driver figure !

You would have to be happy with that !

Cheers

I love these old AYK cars. When I bought my first rc car, I literally had a sidewinder in my hands at the hobby shop. Unfortunately, it was too expensive for my budget back then. I wound up getting a frog. I really love all AYK's cars that share this chassis.

Thanks for the kind words guys, this is the first AYK I own and I already know it won't be the last one, it's simply awesome IMO.

Darryn, would you know where I could find a new carbon plate, mine seems to be hacked a bit... Also, could you give me an estimate of the price of such a car (PM me if you prefer), thanks in advance.

I'll try to make some work on it today if I have some spare time, that should tease you guys a little more
