MRC Thunder King "Restomod"

Post by CruzinCustomz »

Hey folks, just joined up after browsing through the forum and I really like what I see so I figured I'd throw some of my projects up. I like restoring/restomoding older rc's so I'll start with my current project. This is an MRC Thunder King I picked up on CL locally in full working condition. I ordered a set of bearings and started tearing it down for a refresh.

Converting front axles to accept hex style wheels vs the older bearing in wheel design.

Thanks everyone! Took it for a test run yesterday with the Traxxas xl5 and single 550 motor I installed from a leftover project. Definitely feels a bit underpowered on the low end so I'll probably look into getting a different motor for it.

Haven't had time to do much else on it. I did get a chance to try on some different shoes :D

Cool stuff :) Interesting that you flio rear hubs to use as front hubs, yokomo yz10-style :) You end up with trailing vs in-line axle, but who cares!

Keep it up :)

Hey,

I was wondering if you had a parts list for the carriers and gear you used to allow for hex wheels? I just received a Thunder King for rebuild and am trying to figure out my options. Any luck finding dog bones or some substitute? Thanks!
