Nice to see a 1:12 scale project for a while from 80's and one with prototype parts that I always like. Well documented build so far. I am looking forward to see this completed.

Are You going to install electronics to this car? Maybe a periodic correct Novak servo, an ESC in heat shrink, Parma modified motor, Sanyo yellow 1200mha cells and receiver without cover?

Btw: was Parma second car with saddlepack cell layout after Delta?

Keep up good work again Gunther!

Chris Arnold was winning a National Round at Watford in 1983 with a Delta Super Phaser, Phil Olson was his buddy and he also raced a Delta. That´s what I know. Later Helger Racing became the Parma distributor und both were asked joining the Parma team.
Around 1980-1982 my friend Michael and me visited Nick Adams of Demon Power Products at least two times, also the Ally Pally Club in London which was the home track of the Demon team. Since that time we knew Phil Olson, later also Jamie Booth and other guys.
Chris was not member of the Demon team but hanging around with those guys so we meet him also, without really knowing him.
At the 1984 Euros his car still was in prototype stage and his personal project, I think just Phil and him had been racing this car so far.

Both had been very fast at the Euros but Chris for some reason was too late for charging his cells for the semi-final. Phil got into the final and won it. If Chris had been also in the final, maybe he would be more known. But also I think he never got credit for designing this car.

At the Worlds later this year the Euro Panther was out for sale, but for Chris it was not any different. Fast in Stock class at practice but the handout motors for the race were crap. Qualified for the final in Modified and the servo died. Bad luck again.
He retired from RC racing end of 1984, so just guys who raced at this timeframe may know him.
He didn´t retire because of those reasons, but his big love actually was not RC but Kart racing. He was racing Karts before RC and went back to this and he still races Vintage Karts now.

Regarding Andy Dobson, he left for the USA as Parma wanted him. I didn´t find much but it seems he was not working very long for Parma. Composite Craft hired him where I have seen pictures of his Lynx cars at Radio Race Car Magazine every now and then.

Regarding Phil Daves yes he was one of the nicest guys in RC racing, I meet him several times at races. I didn´t knew about his passing, read about this much later.

@ Jirka
Thanks, glad you like the project.

The Suspension Panther was Parma´s first saddlepack car, right before the Euro Panther. But both the Delta and Parma had not been the first saddlepack cars. Right the first 1/12 car, the Jerobee was the first saddlepack car, when converted from Nitro to Electric. MRP maybe the next one.

Actually I like showing cars naked, what means without ... electronics. :)
This way you can see the real design, as electronics and battery always are hiding details.
My main goal for the moment is finishing the car, what is not that easy as most of my cars or projects seem missing parts or hardware. And as there are "several" projects there is more stuff missing.

But in the end there will be at least a motor added. Not just any period correct one but a Parma Yokomo Ferrari provided by Chris Arnold, exactly the same type and winding as he used at the 1984 Worlds final.

For the servo I´m not sure but if, it has to be a Novak. An ESC would not be correct as the Parma drivers used resistors with Novak servos. The problem is, I don´t have that much Novak servos and for mounting the resistor servo to the Euro Panther, you have to cut at least one of the mounting tabs, what I absolutely hate to do. If another Novak comes up, maybe I will. Another problem, if I want to do the wiring also, I need Parma silicon wires or Delta silicon wires what look very close. Any other wire looks different and not correct.
I have no Sanyo SC1200 saddle pack battery. These are gone long ago.

Roll bar cleaned and added. As mentioned before this is a handbuilt prototype roll bar. Roll bar provided additional stiffness to the rear end for high grip conditions, also tweak could be adjusted this way.
When watching several Euro Panther photos I found there were several choices for the lower roll bar mount. I went with the same outside position as Chris.

Rear axle diff was next step. Chris provided a Parma graphite axle where the diff ring was epoxy glued. New Parma Panther hubs and usual diff hardware were used also. The diff hub was a quite tight fit so a reamer was used for making this work.
This diff is old style and doesn´t use ball bearings at the diff.

The Parma pod is quite narrow so wide spacers are needed.

At some point I mentioned I will keep with white color scheme for most of the plastic parts but there will be red parts also.
OK this now where the special red parts will be added.
