Academy Griffin pro

Post by Mr. ED »

A bit of building on Sunday afternoon, some more monday evening and painted on tuesday. It really doesn't take that much time to build a NIB

Hope you like it

Who can help?
While building this I couldn't figure out wich spring to put on the slipper and wich on the balldiff.
There were 2 identical sized springs, 1 metal cloured , the other one black.
I find the balldif very tough, but if I loosen it up I can turn the gear while blocking the outdrives. Don't know what Idid wrong... I really can set the smoothness of the diff very gradual by setting the screw, but the outdrives also gradually slip more and more when I loosen it up.

(yes I degreased the outdrives and diff rings where they meet)

I found spare parts on the bay for those springs. unfortunately the pictures did not slove the mistery of wich to use on the diff.
One picture shows the black spring in a kit with the black plstic parts that go into the diff outdrives, another pic showed 2 metal coloured springs with 'replacement diff springs' in the text next to them :(

I wonder if this uses the same internal diff parts as the original SB Sport?

I think it does use the same parts as the SB Sport.

I remember the black spring in the diff. Do any of my old slipper pictures show the spring color I used?

The only parts I ever remember breaking on this car was a front hub carrier and rear axle shaft..snapped right where the cross pin was. Purple shocks didnt last long for me, I tossed a set of Losi shocks on it after the first track excursion.

Looks fantastic though.

Thankyou JK.
I have the black spring on the diff already, so it seems I'll have to look further into what's keeping it from going smooth without slipping.
I'll doublecheck your pics again to be sure.
The purple shocks look like a purple copy of the option-house gold shocks. They feel good for now. I'm only a bit worried on the shafts: are they strong enough or will they bend... we'll see. With 2 sets I'm sure going to use them, maybe replace components like the o-rings and shafts.

The drive pin in the rear shaft is unusual large indeed, and the larger bore will make the axle weaker. I may end up looking for acvd replacement eventually but for now I have spares enough.
