Team Car Runner build COMPLETED!!!!!

Post by Seabass »

Hey guys, I just got a Team Car in that I had purchased. Overall condition of the car is pretty good. Tranny is smooth and the chassis has no extra holes so I am already doing pretty good.

I have some pretty big plans on this car and hope to start making progress on it soon. I am going to tear the car apart and get some of the process started this week. Stay tuned for updates.

Have you guys ever seen the holes drilled off center for the battery holder? If you look at the third picture above you will se what I am talking about. The holes are drilled roughly 1/4 off. At first I thought the previous owner had and coutersunk the holes but upon teardown, it appears the chassis was drilled incorrectly from the factory since the countersinks had been anodized black along with the chassis. Just wondering.

I am getting ready to prep the chassis and do some mods (cutting down the sides, doing some milling, etc) My plans are to have the chassis anodized professionally after i get all the mods done.

Will post pics of the before and after.

That is the way AE drilled them on all of the early "A" chassis' and some of the early "B" chassis'. Those chassis' were inteneded to be run with the two battery cups width wise.

I think all the A stamps came like that. You might have one of them uncommon, black annodized A stamped chassis that people have talked about.

I have one of the A stamped black chassis, but it was never drilled for the stealth. But why are the holes drilled off? I have always wanted to know. Surely it was not by accident since there are so many. Was there something else that was planned for those holes? Someone somewhere has to know.

1. Why weren't all the chassis holes underneath the original production RC10 chassis all countersunk? Especially, the battery cup mounting holes that go in line with the rear bulkhead.
2. Why were the battery cup holes (the ones in-line with the bulkhead) drilled off center?

Thanks much,
Jeff

Curtis Husting answers:
#1 Most people ran their batteries down the center of the car. This was the stock set-up. The car worked best on most tracks this way. The battery mount holes were countersunk in this position so most people would run this set-up. The other holes were not countersunk to help keep dirt from packing in the countersinks as well.

#2 The holes were drilled off center because the resister speed control and throttle servo could not fit with the batteries down the middle. We mounted the front battery box slightly off center to fit correctly.

Re: Team Car Racer build

It has been a few weeks since I got this car but the stuff is strating to come in to get the reassembly going. The plans for this car is to run B4 wheels and tires. I have the 2.62 RPM tranny conversion. I also have a 10T bulkhead and nose plate. I am going to run the 10T front shocks on the car and have a few

I milled the rear bulkhead down and got rid of everything that was not needed. I took a big amount of material off the sides.

The car has MIP ball bearing steering but the posts were in pretty bad shape. I turned some new aluminum posts for the steering today.

I should have the chassis sometime this week and will be able to get alot done with it's arrival.

Re: Team Car Runner build (chassis back from anodizer)

Post by Seabass »

I got the chassis back from the anodizer today and I am happy with the results.

If you guys are interested his site is http://rtraceshop.com/

He charges $40 to anodize everything that could be anodized on a 1/10 scale rig. He also will strip the old anodizing for you, just send your stuff and let him know what color you want.

Anyway, I modded the chassis and motor plate and sent them to be colored red. I had my shock caps reanodized black and the chassis tubes black as well. I think the black and red will look nice with one another. Now I just need to finish another step and I will be ready for reassembly. Enjoy the pics.

Wow! That looks great! My brother had a red anodized Team Car when we were kids, but yours looks much better. Good project you got there.

You may get to see it in person. I hope to go racing with you and Brandon when I get the car finished.
