i got the front shock bodies done today. i wanted to get them built, but then remembered i don't have any new .56 shafts, and the ones that came out of shocks were used up pretty good. so, i'll move on to getting the trans back together for now.

wouldn't be an ol' school build without ol' school oil in the shocks, right? :)

Sweet! Nice detail with the little collars on the top bolts even. Looks really clean for a bunch of "leftover" parts J. Geeze, just noticed the Pale Ale, I mean shock oil. :D Oh, and I made a jig to use to "turn" the fat nylon washers down to the narrow size in case you are interested. -B

i just used the rubber o-ring instead of the nylon gasket. i figured with the shocks being upside down, i wanted the best seal at the cap i could get.

the white parts are in real nice shape. i picked out the best of the parts that i had soaked in peroxide. i still need 2 nice battery boxes, though. i have quite a few, but they're all cut up in some way shape or form. i also need to get some fiberglass so i can make a trans brace and the battery hold downs.

Both Gene and Curtis wrote me to provide more information on this car shown below.

Here is Curtis' reply!

"Hi Ruffy,

You are right, this is a body I painted. It was my personal body. I had a fun time making it. It had a roll cage in it. I hand wound the window nets. I miss that body.

Best regards,

Curtis Husting"

Pretty cool and you can just see the internal roll cage frame. The surprise was the hand woven window net!!! Which one of you is going to do both the frame and the net this way?

Regards,
Ruffy

Did you ask Curtis what colours he painted it and if he had any colour pictures of it around? I'm sure his dad has some. He always had a camera in his hands!

i asked jake to whip up a set of early spring cups for me. so here they are...... on the back anyway. i haven't put the front together yet. i also changed the mounting hardware on the tower around to be more correct.

you know, i thought this car was gonna go together so easy. clean up some white parts, throw them on the chassis, blah blah blah. then i had to get curious and asked ruffy to ask curtis if this was his car. i was 95% sure it was, but just wanted confirmation. and what do ya know, curtis had a nice color photo of the car. as cool as that is, now i can see a bunch of black parts on the back. so now it makes me wonder, what else is black under that body......................

It's so cool to finally see that car in tecnicolor. The front body mount is definitely dyed black as well :D I also noticed that the front arms look to be dremelled... Good luck Jason! I got you covered on the GoodYear decal on the roof when you'll come to it. Are you going to build a roll cage as well?

ya, i noticed the front arms, too. they look similar to the arms on the front of the car that roger is holding in the "winning edge" video.

ok, 6 month update.......

so as i said earlier in this thread, having a color pic of the real one put me in tough spot. i cleaned up a bunch of white parts for the build, only to find out half of it needed to be black. well after that, i was kinda thinking about just trashing the build and doing something else. but, i really wanted to see it through.

i didn't want to dye the white parts i had cleaned up. i knew i had a ton of previously dyed used parts laying around here, it was just a matter of finding ones in nice condition. not to mention, source the parts that i didn't have. it took a little while, but i now have everything i need....... with a fresh dye job.

this will sit a little bit now. when i started on my cliff lett replica, i decided i wanted to have the gold parts re-anodized. so i figured..... might as well do this one, too. so the parts for this car will be going the light gold like ruffy's boxart build. the parts for both cars will be sent out in the next couple days.

HI!... Hey scr8p, how did you strip off the anodizing off of the shock bodies?
Also I'm VERY interested in a set of those shock collars. Where did you get them? Are the custom or do they come off of another RC vehicle?

Thanks :

Neal.
