Picked up my first Gold pan (Updated with pics 11/17)
I had hinted at having a line on one since i joined. I was finally able to send payment for it yesterday. Heres the sellers description of it.
"This one came in a package deal I bought a while back and I now realize that I don't need 4 of these gold pan cars so this one is up for sale. This is a very old version with the six gear transmission before the Stealth trannys came out. I would guess this is like 84-86? The guy ran this one for me the day I bought it but I haven't ran it since (pulled the motor for another car). All the electronics are about as old school as it gets! Looks like some of the hardware, the steering links, front spindles, and wheels/tires aren't original but what do you expect for a 25 year old runner? Comes with a couple old bodies and vintage radio gear, everything in the pics is included!"
And of course pics! These pics are from the add on BYT which is where i found this buggy. However i believe the member is also on here under the same sn and that is mrgrimm.

Re: Picked up my first Gold pan
Main plan with this buggy is to clean it up and run it as is possably. It looks like it might have some 2.2 sized rims on it now so that will make it easier to run modern tires if that is the case. Electronics wise i plan on keeping it as is other then adding an older Team Epic 27 T motor to it to power it. These old RC10s use a 48P pinion and spur correct?

Re: Picked up my first Gold pan
the spur gear on that particular car is 48 pitch. the earlier cars had 32 pitch gears, but that's not a problem, just run with what is there.
the front axles look like CRP aftermarket truck adapting units. then they stuck the deep outdrive bushings on the axle, followed by the front wheels, giving you an extra wide stance.
the steering setup is also bastardized a bit, there should be 2 bell cranks with a small tie rod between them.
in order to correct the front end, you would need the steering parts, and the correct front axles.
otherwise, a good cleanup and you are looking good.....

Re: Picked up my first Gold pan
Thanks for the info! So if I am understanding correctly the front end has axles on it intended for running RC10T front wheels on it? I have an older RC10B3 that is in rough shape I could use parts from to help rebuild this buggy. What parts can I use off of it? I know it has the front wheels on it but I think it could be T3 truck rears on it. Not 100% on this though. Would the front axles and wheels from the B3 work on this?

Thanks! Def plan on trying that trick in the spring.I might change out the esc for a more modern unit so I don't risk ruining it by refitting it with a deans plug on the motor wires. I may also try running saddle pack lipos intended for buggies like the B44 to keep the battery tray set up as it is now. Thus another reason for a modern esc with lipo capability.

Re: Picked up my first Gold pan
b3 spindles are slightly different than what you have, but i think would fit.
if you just got standard axles, you could bolt the front wheels right back on.....but yes, B3 wheels will fit also.
check out slotcarrod's '25 yrs of the RC10' thread, for some really nice pictures of how the cars are assembled.
also check out rc10.com in the 'manuals' section, down in the 'discontinued models' section, and look for an rc10 manual for assembly information.
as mentioned, it looks like you have some nice white parts, a good cleaning and she will be lookin' good.

Re: Picked up my first Gold pan
So i could reuse the current front wheels with standard axles? Are the standard front axles still avalable or would i be best off looking around on ebay for a parts donor?
Another question is there any way to tell which version of the RC10 i have?
From what i can see so far going by the anodizing it might be a Cadillac car but im not sure.

Re: Picked up my first Gold pan
Would these be the correct axles for this application?

Re: Picked up my first Gold pan
the short arm cars used offset knuckles. the axles you need would be 6216 (or maybe 6217), i can remember the exact number off the top of my head.
to use the 6220 axles you need the 6221 knuckles.
