Was there ever a Houge specific shock tower made, besides the drilling instructions that were included in the arm kit (which I always thought was a bit lackin)? The first problem is that the shocks will be at an angle, and the original bushing do not allow this (unless your shock caps are worn). Now 30 years later I've found that newer #6473 bushings allow this, however you still need put the bushing other way than in the instructions. Back in the day I used soft rubber tube for bushings. Second thing is that with 1.32" shocks, the suspension is quite limited (especially if you use the Houge spring retainer), and the shocks will bottom way too early. Now after getting 1.02" shocks, I think the car is much better. The droop is the same, but now the chassis will hit the ground before shocks bottom.

It would be interesting to hear if anybody has come up with a better way of installing the rear shocks.

Hello aakoskin

Always nice to see an other Houge!

I think you are on the right track with the 1.02 shocks. On my Houge I am using 27.5mm shocks which is very similar in length but wider at the top.
My difficulty was to eliminate the upper and lower shock ends from binding throughout the shocks travel.
I have used the worlds style tower and it worked out for me. I did need to trim a little material near the shock mount to accomodate the wider shock body.
Using the 6471 style lower mount allows the shock to set a little more verticle. Great care when mounting the lower shock is very important as the mounting hole in the Houge arm can and will strip easily.

I have also gone to a different arm mount from Shapeways with no (0-0) antisquat or toe. It is a mount for stock AE arms. It did require drilling a new hole in the Shapeways arm.
Overall the net effect of the new (0-0) mounts is less camber gain and a little less bone plunge.
The picture shows the original Houge mounts not the newer Shapeways mounts.
