It does seem like a great idea at first. I was hoping for the same.
There is a catch with doing this.
The late model diff gears have a larger diameter. This means that the vertical centerline of the outdrive will be significantly higher/further away from the top surface of the chassis.
That means that the stock/OEM length dogbones will be too short. Either the upper swingarm mount will have to be raised significantly or custom length dogbones will have to be made.
With this issue, it is clear why AE now has the bottom of the trans case pierced through the chassis. Doing so helps keep the driveline lower in the chassis & therefore gives better dogbone angles.
I am currently planning on going through the bottom of the chassis, with a late model transmission, on my next build.
