RC10 gold pan OIN build

Post by uniquenamehere »

So I've been acquiring parts for an old is new type of build. I want to build something that I can possible run at our local track. I've never raced before, so it should be lots of fun.

I want to incorporate as many vintage elements as I can, but run B4 wheels, slipper assembly, B44 CVDs etc.

Here's what I'm working with so far:

I'm hoping I can fit these packs in the rear bulkhead!

You have caught the bug. I am in the same boat and I am excited for this kind of thing. I wish you luck.

However, I will say this. Your chassis is pre-stealth. You have selected to put a stealth tranny in it from what I can tell in the pictures. It will require you to drill some holes for it to fit on your chassis. Otherwise, you will need to find an original 6 gear tranny.

If you choose to drill your own holes then do a little searching for a chassis template on this forum. It will help.

Hope that this helps. And keep us posted on the progress.

Thanks, Yah I managed to track down a stealth transmission drill template from a forum member. Just need to collect a few more parts and I'll be ready to start building!

Gens Ace will fit without a problem. It's a tiny bit snug but just give it a push and it will go in. It will stretch it maybe a couple mm's but hey, it's a runner so no biggie right?

I just bought a boatload of parts from eBay... I suspect I'll actually make some building progress soon. Or at least have more pretty pictures...

First of two shipments... all I really need now is to find some hinge pins and screws. Not too keen on the blue that are readily available on eBay. I'm trying to keep a very vintage "hopped up" feel to this build:

Got a few more things delivered:

...need to find some hinge pins, and screws. Maybe I'll look up fastener express... I sense another hardware purchase today. I feel my virtual wallet getting lighter.

I've been having trouble finding hinge pins as well. I'm looking for stuff specifically advertized as RC10 since I don't know the compatibility of others. Does any one know what other model pins will fit? I know there might be some variation for the different arm setups that are out there.

Well, I took care of that lack of screws problem.

Put in a sizable order from Fastenal since I could pick up locally at one of their locations. Kinda bummed about having to order quantities of 100. But at least I won't run out of hardware in this or any future builds!

Loving the parts coming in.

I hope the fastenal gave you a good price. Usually there prices aroudn here are 2-3 times more than other places i can find. and thats before the per 100 price cut in half discount at times.

But they usually have a good selection.

(if shipping try boltdepot.com.

Let us know how the Turnigy servo works out. I have been eyeballing them for a while, but am still kind of on the fence. I am pretty impressed with their batteries and chargers. :D

So I had a reasonably productive day today. I gave all the old nylon parts a nice bath and scrubbed everything down with dish soap. I thought about soaking the old parts in peroxide, but I think I'll shelf that idea right now. I kinda like the yellowish nylon color... and it matches the losi rod ends better! :)

I also drilled the chassis to accept the stealth transmission. I still need to countersink it as I don't have an 82 degree countersink... (actually I don't have any counter sinks but that's just splitting hairs). I assembled the transmission with the B4 top shaft and slipper assembly and also assembled the front B4 caster block/steering arm assembly.

Fibre-lyte makes some really nice pieces, almost too nice as I'll hopefully be racing/bashing with this car. I think I'm going to chuck those nose tubes in my drill and sand off the black coating.

Waiting for my hinge pins to arrive in the mail... here's the pics!

you should pick up some bearings for your steering bellcrank.

I think I likely will... I'll need to buy a few bearings for the rear hubs and front wheels. Not too sure of the size however...
