CLM's rc10 buggy projects.

Post by clm »

First off, anyone care for an rc10 martini?
IMG_1659.JPG
Well I have a couple buggy projects I picked up recently that I will be working on to get into decent runner shape. They likely won't be anywhere near as pretty as some peoples but they will work.

This thread is more or less a companion thread to my truck post in the truck forum.

First I have my Edinger which I picked up on ebay for $60 BIN, overall it's in pretty decent shape, there is some roadrash on the bottom and I would love to find a better nose plate and I need to find a light gold motor plate... Overall it appears to be pretty original for it's age. It is missing the motorplate, a wing, a body, a battery cup and some white nylon bit. I plan to just get rere parts for it's restoration as they have the best bang for my buck and the car will never be new and unused again... although I still want to find a matching motorplate and nose plate ;)

P.S. Yes, the champ wheels are on it because the jellybeans are in the martini ;)

The other buggy that will be getting attention is something I also scored for $60 BIN on ebay... with a $2 shipping charge

I had to look behind the clown costume to find the jewel inside, it turned out to be a modified early 4 hole front tower team car with RPM shorty front arms and front bulkhead, aftermarket ball bearing stearing and some purple rear shocks I can't identify. from the looks of it I half almost everything needed to put it back to all white plastics aside from a rear hub and the battery box. It will also need wing tubes and that annoying little cap that goes on the end of the stealth transmission.

I will add more when I start working on the buggies :)

Lots to work with there  but a $2 shipping charge  Lucky you, even when a seller lists free shipping, I still pay way more than what you paid

Wow, early chassis are some seriously rough stampings. My gold pan has thick dents, scars, bad gouges. All done to it apparently by the stamping machine, I know they were done in manufacturing as they are under the factory anodizing. I will take some glamour shots tomorrow in the sun lol.

Here are shots of the majority of the scrapes and bruises and the dent, as you can see most of them are under the original light gold anodizing meaning they are original lol. This early A stamp tub must have been a monday or friday build product ;)

Update on the team car, I have almost all the plastic bits and the chassis has taken a trip up to Portland to be reanno'd. I still need to find a set of white teardrop wing buttons, a new set of bellcranks, wing tubes, rear team car rims, a full body and wing set... and much much more! :D

The RC10 martini worked wonderfully!

I am amazed on how some of the orange creme flavored nylon parts turned whiter then the re-re, only 3 of the arms really are still a little yellow. I did manage to find one tire I was able to identify as an Edinger front tire! Unfortunately there is only one  I guess I should get some re-re tires. I found the early front spindles are cracked as is the bellcranks :( I need to get a set of bearings for the transmission but it has all wheel bearings. I have a line on a correct motorplate but not yet on a noseplate to replace my bent holed original. I find it odd that the motor brace does not have a countersunk hole for the rear body post and the differences in the shock bits on this early car are interesting.

I will need to get a body and wing set for it, thankfully with the re-re they are fairly easily to get :) I will likely use the BRP wing on my team car as I find it a very unique item... too bad a previous owner drilled the holes offset to the left

Another Team Car update,

I got the rest of the pieces out of the Martini for it and think I am just missing a few pieces now;

-white aero wing buttons
-body posts
-servo mount
-uncut battery box
-white plug for stealth transmission

along with a bit of hardware. The Black aluminum bits it will use are still up in the Portland area.

It's not going to be perfect... but it will be a heck of a lot nicer then what I bought a few weeks ago ;)

I was able to mockup my b1.5 team car project thanks to a used t2 I got in the mail today... It is looking about what I want it to look like :)

that looks pretty darn good...what is the wheel base compared to a "stock" chassis RC10?

No idea! It's already stripped and shipped up to Portland for a new coat of anodizing :)

I should be getting the de-anodized other t2 chassis next week for some hole drilling for mounting points so it can be reannoed over the new holes... I will measure then :) I do know I need to move the battery cup back about half inch or more :D

I am thinking I am going to need to find a section of rear chassis kickup to make a motor guard for it however, something like the graphite cars used.

Well Eddy is officially a runner now... at least it did some cookies in my living room :) I am currently using an Associated RTR radio set with it due to not having any more older functional futaba receivers. It has a pair of s148 servos in it and a gm racing(?) stock motor. I want to eventually get a nice Associated stock motor for it... but this will work for now :) I will put together an antenna spool of sorts and place it under the receiver, I sort of had to mount the reciever there due to where a previous owner drilled the hole for the antenna mount ;)

I still need to get tires, body, wing, and spur cover for it and I have a motor plate on the way.
