The "new" one: B3

Post by Vale »

Hi Guys,

I'vebeen looking for a long time after a B2. This car was built only two years, so these are hard to find... Nevertheless, I always keep my eyes open.

So I had to pick up some spare parts at a good friend of mine...Then I had a thought: I know he has a rc10 buggy lying around ... it's a B2 or B3?

So I was this morning to him and took a look at the chassis. I noticed immediately it's a B3 when I saw the front the shock tower. Then I ask him the question: how much? Answer: No idea... $60 ?? (old LRP 17t motor and Graupner servo included) ... I thought it was a very good deal so I took it.

The chassis is in a good condition. Must disassemble it, clean it and of course replace some parts.

Now I have a few questions to the specialists:

- How many B3 versions does it exist? I suppose mine is a Team version? Could someone confirm?

- Were graphite/carbon Factory Team parts options?

After finishing the T2 i will probably start restoring this B3...and of course I will report here in this thread :)

Cheers,
Daniel

Im sorry to tell you, but this is not a Factory Team. I think it is a Sport Kit. Anyway, nice buy, this are awesome cars.

9003 Basic Plus kit (with bushings, but no motor or MSC (Manual Speed Control))
9013 Sport kit (with bushings, motor, MSC and B2 Sport body)
9032 Team kit
9021 Worlds Upgrade kit
9043 Factory Team kit

Here are some pictures of my B3 FT for reference (sorry it is a bit dusty, next time ill de-dust it first):

Note the blue anodized parts, the carbon shock tower and other goodies, only in the factory kit.

Have fun restoring it, all parts are still available, god knows who long this will last!

Hey Just,

Thank you for your help! Your B3 looks awesome :)

I just checked the B3 manual... and I think mine should be a Team Kit.

Factory Team -> Shocks: Hard anodized, PTFE- coated gray. Rear Axles: MIP CVD's. Also includes: Factory Team parts, ball bearings throughout.
Team Kit -> Shocks: Hard anodized, PTFE- coated gray. Rear Axles: MIP CVD's. Also includes: Ball bearings throughout.
Sport Kit -> Shocks: Gold shocks. Rear Axles: Associated dogbones & stub axles. Also includes: Mechanical speed control and motor. Bushings throughout.
Basic Kit -> Shocks: Gold shocks. Rear Axles: Associated dogbones & stub axles. Also includes: Bushings throughout.

My B3 has the hard anodized shocks, ball bearings throughout and the MIP CVD's.

Cheers,
Daniel

I agree, that looks like a Team kit.

Your car appears to have the lower profile rear shock tower, as used in later model B3 kits - that shock tower is designed to fit with the low profile 6154 "Deja Vu Tu" body.

@ Just: i will be a shelfer :)

@ Didiaz: does it mean that I could not use the 6124 body?

I actually don't know how to restore this B2...should I upgrade it to B2 Factory Team or simply restore it as original Team Kit, maybe with some nice Factory Team parts...what do you mean?

Cheers,
Daniel

It is a B3 Team kit. Most parts are still easy to find and should restore easily.

Yes, I also think I will restore it as Team buggy...maybe I will install some FT part, like the carbon battery strap or alloy screws....

But first I have to finish my T2 :)

Today I was bored. The T2 parts are not yet arrived, so I thought I start to disassemble the B3...

The chassis is in good condition but very dirty. Here are some pictures:

I cut off the tires because I want to use again these old rims.

The losi battery strap only came with the B3 Limited Edition   already ordered the right one :)

I don't know if I should run it, but I think it's should not be a problem competing on the same level with the other actual 2wd buggies :)

Two years later: finally found some time to work on this B3 :D

I took my time on collecting some new parts for this one and have been working on other cars :)

Nothing special on this build. Only installed a few goodies like titanium turnbuckles + hinge pins, shiny cvd's, aluminium screw kit and golden shock shafts. I replaced several parts like front and rear arms, all the aluminium chassis parts, shock towers, bumper, gear cover...

Now just missing some hardware and waiting for a very nice paint job...so stay tuned :) hope to get it done in near future :)
